Time seemed to pass quickly. As if no time had actually passed at all, March turned into April, which then turned into May. During this time, most of the older students at the school, such as Fresh, Alphys, or Undyne, spent most of their time studying. Two skeletons, however, spent their time differently.
"Okay, how would you ask to go to the toilet?" Emilio asked, a look that looked awfully like the expression Nightmare would give students when they got a question wrong on his face. Paperjam hummed, thinking back, "uh, puedo... uso la baño?" Paperjam guessed, a sheepish smile on his face.
Emilio gave him a look, one filled with annoyance and amusement at the same time. "no! puedo usar el baño" He corrected. Paperjam huffed, falling back with a groan. "This is stupid- Why do your words need a gender of all things?" Paperjam said, exasperated. Emilio rolled his purple eyes, "That wasn't the only thing you got wrong there, amado" Emilio responded, grabbing Paperjam's hand and pulling him up, bringing the darker skeleton closer to him.
Paperjam scoffed, going his face warming up slightly. "Hey! I'm doing well for a month!" Paperjam exclaimed, offended. "Especially since you're my teacher" He added, teasingly. Emilio pushed him slightly, "No one else would want to teach you" He snarked back. Despite his words, there was a smile on both of their faces.
This was a normal conversation that happened while Emilio try to semi-successfully teach Paperjam a new language. Neither of them could say if it was going well or not, since neither of them really knew how long it would normally take for a person to learn a new language, but Paperjam assumed he was doing well.
Paperjam shuffled, getting more comfortable on his bed. "okay, puedo usar el baño, better?" Paperjam repeated, turning his head slightly to look up at Emilio. "How long you gonna remember that?" He asked, unimpressed. He then looked to the book that had been abandoned on the other side of the bed, "You really should be writing this down" He told the other, though he made no moves to get the book.
Paperjam waved his hands, "Yeah, yeah, we can do that next time" He promised, not looking up to Emilio this time. The purple skeleton rolled his eyes, "you said that last time" He reminded Paperjam, hitting him on the head lightly with a pale hand. Paperjam huffed, "You can't seriously expect me to work while I'm in my bed" He reasoned, his tone filled with horror.
Emilio snickered, "Paperjam. I know for a fact you do all your homework in bed" He argued, more for amusement than actually trying to prove a point. "What? You've been spying on me or something?" Paperjam exclaimed in faux shock. Emilio groaned, "You're Horrible" He gave Paperjam a look of pain.
The older of the two snorted, "I know" He replied, "Now. What's next?" Paperjam asked, rolling over slightly. Emilio thought carefully, "how about... okay. Necesitas una ducha, what did I just say?" Paperjam scoffed at that, "I don't know any of those words!" He exclaimed, glaring at Emilio. Emilio said nothing, making Paperjam think with a huff. "Ducha? Isn't that shower?" He asked the other, hesitant.
Emilio chuckled, breaking his short silence. "I don't know. Is it?" He ignored the attempt at a kick Paperjam did, "Wait! are you insulting me again?" Paperjam cried out, lifting himself up and properly glaring at the other. Emilio let out a surprised laugh, "of course not PJ" Emilio reassured, lying straight to his face. "I don't know what you just said-" He shuffled further away from Emilio, ignoring the skeleton's cry of protest. "But the same could be said about you" He told the other.
Emilio hummed, giving Paperjam a odd look. "Really? I guess we could-" He was interrupted by a loud bang, startling them both. "PJ!" He heard Gradient screech, slamming into their bedroom door, opening it clumsily. Paperjam gave his brother a concerned, slightly annoyed look, "What the hell Gray, what is it?" He questioned, his eyes locked on his younger brother, who was breathing heavily.
