"I-I can explain!" Joe stammers holding his hands up, he had no idea how she would react to him being in her hospital room as he hadn't seen her since she told him that she wouldn't be pressing charges on him for pointing a gun at her head. She wasn't even showing any expression on her face as she stared up at him but he could see her eyes welling up with tears, he guessed out of fear that he had gun in his back pocket. He was surprised when she opened her mouth speaking to him and not in an angry manner, calmly.
"Do you know how my boys are?" She questioned ignoring that fact of who he was. She cared more about her twin boys at the moment. Scared that they thought that they had lost her, that she had died and they would never see her again. She knew that was something that all kids think about around their age. Their parents dying and her being in a car accident so suddenly without any warning could have triggered it more for them.
"Um yeah, they are fine. Just missing you as you can tell by all the cards." Joe cracked a small joke but Demi didn't laugh, she motioned for him to come over. He was reluctant but he did making his way over to her side.
"Sit down, I miss company." She spoke her voice being groggy, he was just really surprised that she wasn't yelling at him to leave and for him to never come near her again but he guessed that she was really weak. That she didn't have much energy to fight back, he didn't want to stress her out too much. She had been in a coma for the past three weeks, nearly four.
"Actually I was about to take Jay and Isaac to a baseball game." Joe states.
"They are here?" Demi questioned Joe nodding his head gently. "Can you bring them here?" Joe sighed slightly sitting down on the chair so they were closer to eye level, so he didn't have to look down to speak to her.
"Are you sure you want them to see you like this?" Joe inquired.
"Do I really look that bad?" Joe was quick to reassure her.
"No you look great to say you were in a car accident, I just mean they are young." Joe explains wanting her to know for sure what she wanted before he went to go collect them. He knew they would miss the game but he would take them another time. If Demi let him. He was scared at the moment that he would never see them again.
"I just want to see them." Demi begged.
Joe wondered through the hospital again this time his hands holding onto a small hand in each of his own. Demi wanted to see her boys and it wasn't for him to say that it was a bad idea. He was ignoring all the questions that Jayden and Isaac were asking him as they walked, he wanted it to be a surprise knowing how much they have wanted to see her.
"Is mommy okay?" Jayden questioned.
"Has she died?" Joe was quick to reassure them both not just Isaac who asked the question that she wasn't dead.
"No she isn't, just follow me and you'll see when we get there." Joe encourages. He knew how much they have wanted to see her since the first day she was in the hospital and he will admit she didn't look as bad as she would have done when she first arrived at the hospital but he still didn't know whether it was a good idea or not.
"Is mommy awake?" Jayden asked this time but Joe kept quiet not saying another word but it gave it away for the twin boys then getting excited to see their mother again. Joe stopped them when they were outside the room.
"Now you have to be careful okay cause mommy is still hurting." He warned both of them nodding their head bursting into the room running over to the bed when they saw Demi awake smiling at them holding each of their hands.
