Lucy POV
I ran into the hospital in gasping breaths. My face was flushed red and I looked desperately for the hospital counter. When I finally saw it, my heart started to speed up even faster and I walked up to the counter and got the nurse attention.
"Hi, what can I do for you?"
"Um, can I get my mom's hospital room number?"
She sighed and turned to her computer.
"What's her name?"
"Layla Heartfilia.."
"A Heartfilia, huh?"
"Just give me her room number."
"Excuse me? Is that how you talk to a nurse that works in the hospital that saved your mom's life?"
I felt my temper rise. I was way too damn tired to be dealing with this chick.
"All you have to do is give me the room number and that's it. So, please."
"How about no?"
"What?"
"My shift is over in 5 minutes and, wow, so is visiting hours. What a coinkadink."
"Dammit, you freaking bitch."
"Oh, I'm so scared..."
I narrowed my eyes and glared at her.
"I wonder how long it will take you to absolutely fear me."
She scoffed and tossed her hair over her shoulder. She leaned over the counter with a taunting smirk.
"You are nothing but a little high school girl. You probably prance around all day in mini skirts and gossip. Nothing. But. A. Little. Girl."
"You know nothing about me."
"Oh, really?"
"Really."
My eyes darkened. I knew because when I was pissed, I would end up looking in the mirror. Don't ask me why. She narrowed her eyes and I grabbed her hair and yanked her over the counter. People stopped in their places and watched the scene unfold. She tried to hit me which she miserably failed at and I twisted her arm behind her back. She made a yelp of pain and I smiled then whispered in her ear.
"I advise if you don't want me to pop your arm out of your socket then you should give me that room number."
She shivered at my dark tone and a tear slid down her face. Oh, so she wasn't a tough as she seemed.
"R-room 415 in the west wing."
"Atta girl and thank you for your lovely costumer service."
I released her and made my way through the crowd and to the west wing. The darkness of my eyes left my features as the thrill of adrenalin rushing through my veins died out. It's been awhile since I've done something like that. I shook my head and continued my quest to get to my mom.
I didn't realize that someone I happened to know saw the scene as well and was chuckling to himself as he followed me down the hallway.
(((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((())))))))))))))))))))(((((((((((((())))))))))))))))
I stood outside of the room that the nurse told me and slowly opened the door. I saw my mom laying there looking out the window. Her face looked awfully pale even if she wasn't looking at me. But when she finally did what I saw wasn't my mom. Even though, she greeted me with a smile it looked forced. Her eyes had lost the brightness they once had. They looked dull and dead. Most of all, she looked...broken.
"Mom?"
"Hey, honey. I'm sorry to worry you but I'm alright now."
"...no, you're not.."
"What are you talking about?"
"I cant believe I didn't notice..."
"I don't understand...?"
She knew what I was talking about.
"That smile it eventually became a mask. I've been so blind to it all."
Her smile faded a little but she continued to act stupid.
"Lucy, I'm fine..."
"NO, YOU'RE NOT!!! Stop lying to me. To everyone..."
"I'm not lying..."
"You expect me to believe that while you are lying on a hospital bed looking like an abandoned doll."
I walked over to her bedside and grabbed her hand. She just stared at our fingers.
"Look at me, mom. No one is going to judge you. It's okay to let out your feelings now and then because if you don't, its going to get bottled up and eventually it will overflow."
"Who are you to tell me? You have no idea how I feel."
"How are we supposed to know when you don't let us know? You know the Heartfilias are great and all but we aren't the brightest colors in the rainbow."
She laughed as her eyes shined with tears.
"I know that."
"You can always cry..."
"I've done a lot of crying lately."
"But you've cried alone, right?"
She looked out the window for awhile and then looked me in the eye.
"Yeah."
"Well, isn't it about time you cried in someones arms? Where you'll feel the warmth and love from that person."
Tears rimmed the edge of her eyes. I laughed and gathered her in a hug.
"Go ahead. I wont judge you. I'm your daughter."
She began to shake and sobs erupted from her mouth. She cried like a child. She poured every inch of pain and suffering into her cries. She cried for about a half an hour and then she started to stop.
"Thank you so much, Lucy."
"No problem, Mom."
"I feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders. I love you so much."
"I love you, too." I paused. "Wait a second, the doctor said that you were badly injured."
"Hehe. He's a close friend of mine. He likes to exaggerate a lot."
"I'll be paying him a visit later. What are you here for then?"
"I passed out from taking too many anti depressants."
"Mom..."
"I'm sorry, I just was out of it today."
"Don't do that ever again. Just get some sleep now, okay?"
"Okay, get home safe. Goodnight."
"I will. Goodnight."
I kissed my mom on her cheek and left the room. I shut the door and heard a deep familiar chuckle. My heartbeat heated faster and turned towards the sound.
"Natsu?"
"Surprise!!!"
