Chapter 18 "Confusion and Kisses"

Natsu POV

Lucy left me utterly dumbfounded. Those three words had made me rethink my life. I had done lots and lots of thinking which I don't do a lot. I needed help and fast. The night was chilly but the sky was clear just like the night I met Lucy. The moonlight lit up the sidewalk so I could see just fine.

I wonder if Lucy is looking at the stars?

I walked up to Gray's house and opened the door with the key he gave me. The house was dark but Gray's room light was still on. I walked up the stairs and opened his door. He was laying on his bed and staring at the ceiling. He turned his head slightly in my direction and then turned to continue staring at the ceiling.

"What brings you to my chamber this late at night?"

"I need help and as you can see, I need it now."

He sighed and sat up.

"What is it?"

"It's about Lucy."

"Oh, the blonde chick that caught your eye."

"Yeah."

"What about her?"

"She confessed to me today."

"Okay, what wrong with that? Congratulations."

"You don't understand. I don't know what to do. I guess what I'm trying to say is I don't know what my feelings for Lucy are and then...there is Lisanna."

"Please, you're still thinking about Lisanna? You know that everything you two felt was only in the past. That love or whatever that you had with Lisanna was alive when you were children."

I was quiet for a moment and realized he was right. Everything I had with Lisanna is in the past and I think that maybe, just maybe, that I'm falling for Lucy bit by bit. Gray sighed and shook his head.

"Natsu, what I'm trying to say is maybe Lucy is the girl you need. I mean, I have never seen you so excited to go to school. Its school. Most people aren't happy to go to school unless they generally like school or they have somebody they want to see."

"But, then again, what about the stuff that we do? Its dangerous for her to get involved with the gang."

"We'll figure that out when that time comes."

I pushed myself off the door and opened the door. But stopped myself for a moment.

"How is Gajeel?"

"He's recovering just fine."

"Did you figure out who shot him?"

"Yeah."

"...did you finish the job?"

"Yes."

"Good."

I turned around and gave Gray a big toothy smile.

"See ya around, dick face."

"Whatever, you stupid bastard."

I chuckled to myself and left his house. I knew exactly what I had to do. I had to go to Lucy's house.

Lucy POV

I laid in my bed with my pillow over my face. My face was still red with embarrassment as I thought about my last words to Natsu. He was so shocked that I just left. Gahhh that was so embarrassing. But what about that girl he was with? Was she his girlfriend? Did he like her? I felt my eyes fill up with tears.

Gosh, I'm such an emotional wreck. I aggressively wiped at my eyes to get rid of the tears. I made up my mind I'll just ignore him at school and wont talk to him again and I'll be fine.

I stood up and made a shaky smile at my mirror. I'll be fine. I jumped at a sudden sound at my window.

"What the hell?"

There was another sound at my window but it sounded like a...knock? I walked over to my window and opened the curtain. I nearly had an heart attack when I saw Natsu trying to balance on my window pane. I hurriedly opened the window and Natsu fell into my room.

"Safe..."

"What the hell are you doing here, Natsu?"

"I came to talk to you, Lucy."

Tears sprang up into my eyes again. He came to reject me.

"No, I don't want to talk to you right now."

"Lucy-"

"Couldn't you wait until tomorrow to do this?"

"Lucy-"

"I was getting mentally prepared for something like this and then you just had to show up."

"Luce."

"What?"

Before I knew it, Natsu's lips crashed into mine. I was stunned at first but eventually I kissed him back. I put my hand into his hair but he pulled back before I could do anything else. He chuckled at my flushed cheeks and took my hand in his.

"What was that kiss for?"

"That was to get you to shut up."

I pouted at his blunt reply.

"But I came here to say I'm sorry for not taking your feelings into consideration when we were talking about Lisanna."

"Really?"

"Yeah. I lied to you and said we were just friends but really, she's my ex. When you told me that you liked me, I thought about my feelings for Lisanna,"

I tried to keep my waterworks at bay while he was talking to me.

"And I realized that those feelings were just ghosts of my feelings for her in the past and I had a little help from my friend to realize that."

Thank god for his friend.

"I also came here to see you at 1 in the morning just to say that I like you, too. It may not sound that confident right now but I promise to you as the days go on I will be able to say it with more confidence and I'll make you believe it."

I couldn't contain the amount of water in my eyes and tears fell one after another. I had the biggest smile on my face as tears streamed down my face. He wiped some of my tears with his thumb and leaned down to kiss me again. His lips connected with mine and my heart pounded against my chest. I put my hands into his hair and kissed him harder. He put his arm around my back and pressed my body against his. I pulled away and blew out a shaky breath. He rested his head on top on mine.

"You know, I always wanted to do that."

I laughed and looked into his eyes.

"What was that kiss for?"

"That kiss was a present from my heart."

"You have no idea what you do to my heart."

He pulled us apart and took a step towards the window.

"It's late. You should get some sleep." He smiled tenderly at me and I grew further flustered.

"You're leaving?"

"Yeah, I can't sleep here. We can't get caught again."

He winked at me.

"But I'll be at school tomorrow so don't try to miss me too much."

"You wish."

"Good night, Lucy."

"Good night."

After he left, I started to feel my exhaustion creep in. I crawled into my bed and fell asleep with a big smile on my face.
