Chapter 4

June 27th, 1995   Boston, MA

The next day...

After the intense fight, Mitchell awakes to Elizabeth in their bed. He tiptoes out of it and heads downstairs to make coffee before heading out to work today. Thankfully, Elizabeth didn't even hear him get out of bed. She follows as soon as she gets Isabella and Juliet out of bed and fed for breakfast. Elizabeth walks downstairs and notices a plate of food and coffee ready for her.

I guess someone is feeling better- Elizabeth thought.

"Thanks, honey; you didn't have to do this." says Elizabeth. "I know. I also apologize for yesterday evening. I'll make it up to you when I get home from work today." says Mitchell. "Okay, are you going to get ready for work?" says Elizabeth. "As soon as I eat breakfast and talk to my lovely wife." says Mitchell. "You're such a tease; no wonder I love you so much." says Elizabeth.

They talk until he goes upstairs and changes for work. He leaves right when Elizabeth is feeding the girls'.

I'm glad he's back to himself.- Elizabeth thought.

Three months, one year and five days later...

A year has passed for both Elizabeth and Mitchell, and hopefully this year will have a much better ending. The girls' have turned 2 years old and Elizabeth placed them in daycare. Elizabeth hired a nanny to take the girls' there while she goes back to her teaching position at school. Both Isabella and Juliet are learning to talk while Elizabeth and Mitchell are rekindling some missing steps in their relationship.  As soon as Elizabeth's day ends, she heads home and notices the nanny and the girls' already home. Perfect timing.- Elizabeth thought. She walks in the door and noticed that she fed and changed the girls' already. So, Elizabeth grabs a snack and a cup of water and heads in the living room to grade papers.  The nanny asks Elizabeth for her pay and if she can leave. Elizabeth writes a check out and hands it to her as the nanny heads out the door. She continues to keep grading papers to when she notices the doorbell ringing. Elizabeth gets right up and noticed that Mitchell came home from work early again. I just love the surprises my Mitchell brings home. - Elizabeth thought.

"Hi, honey; what a lovely surprise to see you home. Did you have a good day at work?" says Elizabeth. "I did. I couldn't stop thinking of you all day. It made me want to come home from work early." says Mitchell. "I thought so. I was thinking that I'd make dinner and we'd watch a movie all of us as a family." says Elizabeth. "What did you have in mind to make?" says Mitchell. "Anything you like." says Elizabeth. "Okay, well I guess you better get started on dinner while I pick out our movie. See you later." says Mitchell. "I will." says Elizabeth.

Elizabeth makes a recipe out of one her cookbooks, and follows the recipe very carefully. I'm thankful the girls' can eat solid food now so they don't have to have that nasty pureed baby food in a jar.- Elizabeth thought. She continues cooking as Mitchell comes downstairs from changing out of his work clothes. He goes to find the movie to watch this evening with Elizabeth, Juliet and Isabella. Mitchell notices his lovely wife is cooking a superb meal in the kitchen. He's really impressed.

"You're making my mouth water, honey." says Mitchell. "I know. Just don't say that statement in front of the kids. They'll think it's weird." says Elizabeth. "I don't." says Mitchell. "I know you don't dear." says Elizabeth.

As that conversation ends, Elizabeth's meal is finally done and plated for the whole family to eat. Mitchell has the table set with four glasses of water on it. She divvies up the food to everyone and they enjoy. Elizabeth, beforehand, cuts the pieces of food up to make it easier for the girls' to eat. Everyone seems satisfied with the meal including Juliet and Isabella. Elizabeth changes the girls' diapers and into their jammies before watching the movie. Mitchell has the movie set up in the VHS player and they all begin watching. Elizabeth can't help but smile to when she sees Mitchell asleep with Juliet in his arms. After the movie, Elizabeth gives a talk to Isabella about life. Even though Isabella can't understand a word Elizabeth is saying, she goes along with it anyway. The moment reminds Elizabeth of a song by No Doubt entitled Don't Speak. This song fits it perfectly.

Don't speak I know just what you're saying

So please stop explaining

Don't tell me cause it hurts Don't speak

I know what you're thinking

 I don't need your reasons

Don't tell me cause it hurts- No Doubt

After everyone is in bed, Elizabeth reflects on this day as she is reading her book in bed. What a wonderful day...- Elizabeth thought.

June 26th, 1997     Boston, MA

One year, twenty four days and ten months later...

Everything in that year changed for the better don't you think? I think so. The girls' third birthday is today and Elizabeth has everything she needs planned for the soiree today. She notices that everything is going right on this day. She has already fed the girls' and got them ready for the event today. Hopefully, all my guests come and everything will go as planned.- Elizabeth thought. Within that thought, Elizabeth's guests arrived and they walk in and just chat the afternoon away.

The girls' and everyone else are enjoying the party. Before leaving, everyone has a goody bag to take home with them. The party is slowing down, so everyone goes home and leaves but only a few people stay behind. It's a mix of Elizabeth & Mitchell's friends that want to talk some more. Elizabeth changes the girls' and into their night clothes then puts both girls' to bed as she heads downstairs.

The evening is just getting started down there and the girls' are wondering why there are still people here. They hear a song by another artist they don't know and it's Bittersweet Symphony by The Verve.

'Cause it's a bittersweet symphony, this life

Try to make ends meet

You're a slave to money then you die

I'll take you down the only road I've ever been down

You know the one that takes you to the places

where all the veins meet yeah...- The Verve

The evening ends a few hours later and the girls' are trying to figure out why the people are downstairs.
