"Angela?"
I sit tapping my pen on the table, "Angela?" I repeat, "what?" She looks up from painting her nails, "don't you have a date to get to?" The clock on the wall ticking grabs her attention, "fuck," she curses. "When I agreed to take the Monday night shift that was because you weren't supposed to be here," I tease as she grabs her shit. "The dates at eight— we're going for a late snack," she explains as she waves her hands around to allow the polish to dry.
"Well it's seven-thirty now," thank fuck, I only have until midnight, and glancing around at the students it looks like it'll be a quiet night. "I seriously owe you." She grabs my face with her palms to kiss my forehead, "love you!" Angela shouts before running away through the main entrance.
That girl, I think to myself.
I've known Angela since the second week of college back in early September. When the college was still refurbishing the buildings I took a job in the library to get away from the chaos that was my living room. Angela is very different from the girls, I adore the girl group with my entire heart but with Angela it's different. She doesn't judge, she just listens to me.
I tell her almost everything, yet, there are some things I don't tell anyone.
My phone vibrates with an incoming call, turning it over Eles name flashes on FaceTime. I answer before any students could hear.
"Shit, sorry you're working tonight," her face fills my screen, "it's okay, what's up?" I ask while leaning my phone up against the computer. "I was going to ask if you wanted to watch another episode of Skam." I laugh before quickly covering my mouth to stop the echo, "maybe tomorrow?"
"I'll remind you," Ele says with a smile, I have no doubt that she will. "Right, I'll let you go and do your librarian thing." Ele blows a quick kiss before she ends the phone call. The ceiling lights in the library are now shut off— the only light provided is from the lamps on each table, plus the one hanging above the front desk where I'm sitting.
Tonight's going to be a long night.
