Last Summer.

"Some would argue that you're the one obsessed with me."

I knew I shouldn't have followed her, even when Lizzie turned down a back ally, I knew. But what did she expect? It's dark, plus she's been out clubbing. I couldn't just let her walk home alone. "Obsessed to poison?" I ask and we both remember the memory, "what are you doing here, Kian?" Lizzie questions as she turns to stop. She faces me and as we stand in a side alleyway, the lights from the street on either side of us dimly light the street. I take note of how Lizzies wearing a red dress, short, very short. Short enough for me to kill anyone who looks at her the wrong way.

We're in New York, my Empire, everyone knows me, my family's name. The power we hold, the threats we keep. If I threatened to hurt or even kill someone, I'd follow through. What's the point in making empty threats, especially when you have the ability to do it?

"The better question is, what are you doing here?" I ask as Lizzie sighs. She hasn't had a drink, that's clear. For as long as I've known her, Lizzies never drunk. Maybe because she realizes if she does, she might start telling secrets instead of lies. Elizabeth Young wouldn't know any better than the truth, everything she says I wouldn't trust. Not anymore, not after what went down two and a half years ago.

"Clearly," Lizzie smooths out the end of her blood-stained dress, "I'm heading home," I nod at her answer as I step towards her, she doesn't back away. "You're heading home?" I question her reply as she hums. I can't help myself, my hand reaches toward her face. Just to touch her but she steps away, disgust now written across her face. "Do not touch me," she seethes, "especially when I've been seeing in the news about your activities."

"Keeping tabs on me, Lizzie?" I smile at the obvious jealousy, "it's kind of hard not to, especially when my father finds so much enjoyment in it." Lizzie admits and my smile fades. "The announcement may not be public yet, but I'd appreciate it if you didn't flaunt every girl you're seen with to the media."

"Is that what you think I'm doing?" I question with a genuine tone, "is it not?" When I reach my hand out to cup her cheek, she lets me. "Your mine, just as much as I am yours." The truth spilling out of me, I've always found comfort in the dark. And maybe because the night surrounds us, I admit the truth we both know. Despite how hard Lizzie tries to deny it, we know— there's no one else for us. We belong together because we're both as fucked in the head.

"Careful, Kian, you don't want to reveal all your secrets," Lizzie hums as she steps even closer towards me. Her hand trails up my chest, her fingers find their way to my necklace. "Remember the games we played?" Lizzie questions with a smile, I hold my breath as her fingers travel to the back of my neck. I'm molten under her touch, she knows it too. Despite how hard I try to resist, I crave her.
