Elizabeth was right. I jumped right back up. But this time felt different... what the man was saying stuck in my brain.

"He wasn't who he said he was."

"Your father, He was just a big liar."

"He was a liar!"

Who was he and more importantly what was he talking about? My father is a big liar. Knew him based on the way he was talking. My mind had been swirling around trying to think of what he could have been talking about.

I tried to talk to my brothers about it but every time I would bring it to us they just brushed me off. I even went to Elizabeth but she didn't give me the time of day either. They were acting weird about it but I wasn't going to waste my time.

Instead, today is the day that Hunter is coming. I am so excited to have him around. As much as I love my brothers and sisters, it's always nice seeing my best friend's face. Last he texted me he had stopped for gas ten minutes away.

"What time will your boyfriend get here?"

I've had this argument with Cameron about Hunter more than once so I just learned to ignore his comments. "In like five minutes."

"Is that why you are standing right here watching the driveway like a crazy person?"

"Fuck off."

"Oh come on Cam leave her alone. Don't think I never saw the way you would look at your old friend Blair." Maliki walk's into the foyer sitting on the steps.

"Who was Blair again?" I pretend to be oblivious only to play along with Maliki.

"Cameron's little friend. She went to our school. I even think they fooled around with each other." Maliki teases our older brother.

"Oh yeah didn't her last name start with an V?" I give Cameron a look.

"Yeah, it was Vand-" Maliki goes to finish for me.

Cameron cuts off Maliki to say. "Okay enough. That was what? Six year's ago? Let's just let that go." Maliki just nods.

But quickly recover. "Hey, don't hate a player for playing your own game. You started it." Maliki leans back so his back is resting on the step above him. "Besides, don't feel embarrassed, all of us have had a person like that in our lives. Someone out of this family we love more than anyone else in the world." It was rare that Maliki said anything like this.

When he was around the age of thirteen his best friend was killed in a drive-by. He was there to witness it, now he has a scar from the bullet to prove it. He doesn't bring it up much of the time but when he does it's nice to hear he didn't let it take over his life.
