No one ever said it would be easy to take care of seven children. No, what makes it difficult is having them all so close the way Miles and I did. But then again I love my babies. I love having so many kids that there is never a dull moment.
I had my first child when we were nineteen. After that, we just keep going. People told me I was crazy but I loved the idea of having my kids close together so they wouldn't be alone. Finally, after our last two who just so happened to be twins Miles and I decided that it was it for us.
Each child has had their name specifically picked out. Oliver was after Miles' best friend who died when he was a teenager, Elizabeth after my grandmother, Cameron after Miles' grandfather, and Alexandria because I fell in love with it when I heard it for the first time, Maliki is a name that has a mixture of the two of our names, Nathaniel for my brother, then last but not least Violet for the flowers Miles got me on our first date.
They all have such different personalities and it amazes me that I created them all in my body. The body of a woman can create human life.
My mom was one of thirteen kids and I was one of ten. Let's just say I was happy to stop after seven. Miles wanted me to stop after eight because he said it was an even number.
When we bought this house Miles had just gotten the inheritance from his father and decided to start a new business. We didn't have much to pay for so I thought it was amazing that Miles wanted to do something he loved. He crashed and failed many times until finally, one investor picked up the business.
By then I was pregnant with my daughter Alexandria. By then I could feel my marriage slowly starting to go under.
Miles hasn't invested in our family anymore. He was set on gaining millions until he couldn't anymore. I know my kids love it because they never have a boring Christmas but I can't help but feel as though he divorced me and married the business.
"Mommy." I look away from my mirror and to my right. My eyes are met with my petal.
"Yes, my love?"
"Daddy asked me to give you this." She holds her hands out and I see a box in her hands. "He said it's a secret." She whispers with a smile on her face.
That beautiful smile that I have come to love so much. I never knew I could love someone or something this much.
"Oh my goodness what could it possibly be?" I go along with her whispering.
