"What the fuck was that?" He says the minute my little brother walks out of the kitchen.
"It's my fucking inheritance."

Honey bee.
It's one of the many nicknames I have been granted during my lifetime. When you have had a childhood where you were surrounded by so many siblings sometimes you tend to lose count of the many nicknames you are given.
When Nathan and Violet were three they called me Rex because I had taken care of my friend's pet lizard that looked like a dinosaur. They were too scared to ever go near the lizard but they told me that Rex rhymed with Alex so they gave me the name.
At seven my mom would call me petal because I had developed a fascination with flowers. My room was covered in them. My mom even built me a little garden that I still take care of to this day.
She is just not here to call me Petal anymore.
I could go on and on with the names I have been given but the list would never stop if I did.
The one that has stuck is the Honey bee. When I asked Hunter why he still calls me it he said it's because he doesn't want me to forget who I am. He can tell at times I can forget my way and begin to spiral into this big mess I call my life and I can't find my way back.
"You space out a lot you know that?" I am brought back to reality by my little brother who has seemed to have taken place right up close and personal.
"Nathaniel, why are you so damn close?"
"Excuse me, Nathaniel." He looks taken aback by the fact that I called him his legal name.
"Is that not your name?" I question.
"I mean yeah but I just wanna know why it is being used. I have done nothing wrong."
"Oh, my- Nate it's not that serious. I just meant you are far too close to my face than you need to be." I get off the stool and walk around the counter grabbing a glass from the cabinet.
"How can I just admire my sister's beauty?" I roll my eyes and start filling my cup with water from our fridge.
"Get to the point Nate. What do you want?" I lift the cup to my lips and slowly drink, the cold liquid smoothly going down my throat.
"Okay fine." He walks around the counter to stand in front of me. "So you know how tomorrow is Saturday?"
"Mhm." I nod signaling him to continue what he is saying.
"Well I was wondering if I could go out to a party with so-"
"No." I shut him down and walk out of the kitchen. I don't mean it when I say no but why not make him work for it?
