Beep Beep Beep
The sound of the alarm clock blared from the nightstand.
"Fuck"
Dianne Ruby. She never liked getting up early, the distasteful feeling of coldness pricking at the skin, but she dealt with it. Shoving the pale blue comforter off her body she rose up and looked straight into the mirror.
"Oh god.." Lucky for her she always woke up with the worst bedhead she'd ever seen. Forcing herself out of bed she made her way to the bathroom. The cold floor on her bare feet made her shiver.
Making an entrance into the room she closed the door softly then went and turned the shower on. She then detangled her hair with the brush she stored in the drawer, steam starting to fill the room.
Fuck this and fuck him
That's all she could think of. Dianne had to move far away. Far away from the man that abused her mother, her father. Yep, the man that was supposed to be her dad had basically torn her life apart. Of course, her mother's only option was to move in with Dianne's grandma.
It wasn't so bad though. Dianne finally had gotten her own room instead of sleeping on the couch, and there was no commotion at ungodly hours of the night.
Steam fogged the mirror and the room. Letting out a long sigh she stepped into the shower.
"Dianne, what's the matter?" Dianne's mom asked her with concern yet with some kind of irritation, like it was another thing on her plate. Dianne just rolled her eyes "Mom, I'm pretty sure if you had to redo your life you'd be a bit irritated too"
"Tell em" Her grandma chuckled as she finished washing the last of the dishes. Dianne sent her grandma a small smile while her mother just looked back to her food trying to brush it off.
"I should be going, the bus is gonna get here soon." Dianne stood up from the table and grabbed her bag. "Alright, have a great day sweetie" Her mom gave a genuine smile. Dianne was of course irritated at having to start new but she knew her mom needed this, so so much.
"You better tell me all about it when you get back ok?" Dianne's grandma smiled and waved. "Alright grandma, will do" Dianne shot her a smile back and walked out the door.
The winter breeze hit her body surprising her a bit. Good thing she put on her coat today. Her shoes tapped along the concrete until she reached the bus stop where the school bus was already waiting. A few kids got on before her, then finally she took the steps onto the bus.
The bus was filled with chitchat and laughter, now she wondered where to sit. She walked down the aisle till she reached a tall blonde boy who was sitting by himself. He looked preoccupied on his phone but she wanted to do the polite thing and ask if she could sit next to him.
"Hey" She smiled awkwardly "is this seat taken?"
The boy looked up from his phone in a daze before coming back to reality. "Oh uh, yeah sure!" He scooted over giving her room to sit.
"Thanks" she smiled genuinely this time.
"You're new here right?" The boy asked.
"Uh yeah, how'd you know?" she tilted her head to the side wondering if it was that obvious.
"Not many people ride the bus to school, so it's always the same similar faces." He explained sliding his phone into his pocket.
"I'm Tom, but you can call me Tommy if you'd like" The boy offered as he smiled and stuck his hand out.
"I'm Dianne" She shook his hand and looked into his eyes. His eyes here almost ice blue just a greyish tone to them. They looked friendly.
The rest of the bus ride was spent talking about each of their interests. Tommy talked about his love for gaming and Dianne actually had the same interest, which of course made him excited.
The brakes on the bus came to a stop with a screech. Everyone started getting up from their seats. Dianne stood up as well as Tommy and they walked off of the bus together.
"Hey Dianne, you seem really cool. I think we're gonna get along great. You should meet my mates! They'd love you" Tommy spoke excitedly with a huge smile. "Yeah, that'd be great!" Dianne smiled in return.
This is going better than I thought
Dianne didn't expect to make a friend that quickly, let alone be introduced to potentially more friends. A cell phone rang breaking the excitement.
"Oh sorry, give me one sec" Tommy smiled sheepishly answering his phone. "Hey Wil, what's up? Where are you?"
Dianne's attention was soon taken by a shorter brown-haired boy that was quickly approaching the two. "Tom- Oh hello" The boy greeted, confusion in his voice. "Who are you?" he questioned.
"I'm Dianne, I'm guessing you're one of Tommy's friends?" She asked with a half-smile as she tried to figure out who the boy was. "Yea, I'm Toby. Tom didn't tell me he had a girl.. friend..." He trailed off.
"Oh I'm not his girlfriend!" Dianne put her hands up in defense. "We actually just met, on the bus. I'm actually new here, this is my first day." She tried explaining.
The confusion lifted from the boy's face like rain clouds made way for a sunny day. "Well it's nice to meet you Dianne!" Toby smiled brightly.
"Ok.. you'll be here soon then? Alright, see you then Wil" Tommy's voice faltered for a moment sounding as if he was in a totally different mood. "Oh hey Tobes!" His voice completely changed. "I see you've met Dianne?"
"Yea!" Toby smiled but then it disappeared quickly.
"Who's Wil?" He asked, his eyebrows furrowing."Oh.. He's just another friend of mine! We've been friends for like my whole life" Tom smiled pocketing his phone once again.
"Longer than me?" Toby looked surprised.
"Yes, even longer" Tommy chuckled. "I'll introduce you guys to him when he gets here!"
"Sounds great!" Dianne smiled, things were looking pretty great for her right now.
On the other hand Toby was placing a smile on his face but on the inside he was confused as hell. "Sure does" He fake smiled.
