Silence surrounded the room, the carpet feeling way better than her bed. Dianne stared at the ceiling, studying it as her mind wandered. She thought back to Toby, the image of the look he held on his face was stuck in Dianne's mind for the past few hours. His eyes were almost pleading for her to believe him, but everything Toby was saying seemed so far-fetched.
"He's hiding things, Dianne, I can show you, I found things"
"Hiding things?" She asked herself out loud. Dianne had arrived at this school mid-December, now it was February, so she hadn't known Wilbur for that long. But she had walked with the guy to school each day, hung out at his house on the weekends, hell she's even been in his room alone, Dianne was pretty sure she'd know if her boyfriend was hiding something.
Wilbur was the type of guy to show kindness to others when he hadn't received it back. He was the type of guy to find enjoyment in the small things, like how his face lit up at the sight of a piano or guitar. Wilbur had been nothing short of a wonderful boyfriend to Dianne, always treating her with kindness and putting her first before everything else. Not only was he a wonderful significant other, but he had been Dianne's closest friend, showing her how to love and making her feel at home the moment she arrived here.
But Toby looked almost terrifyingly desperate for Dianne to listen to him. No Dianne hadn't known Wilbur his whole life, but Tommy basically had, and he even agreed that Toby was being ridiculous.
"Well- He stole some of the things back but-"
The way Toby thought of and described Wilbur had been nowhere near how Dianne would describe the sweet boy, it was like they were seeing two different people. The whole thing was confusing, it made Dianne nauseous just thinking about everything.
Her hand found its way to her phone that was laying on the floor right next to her. The screen lit up as she unlocked it, she tapped on the group chat the four had before Toby decided he didn't want anything to do with Wilbur.
Never did Dianne think their group would separate this way, sure friends moved on here and there, but not usually in this way. She took a deep breath as she stared at Toby's contact. Dianne wanted to know what why Toby had all of a sudden turned his back on Wilbur, turned his back on Tommy, but part of her almost felt like she didn't want to hear what Toby had to say.
Wilbur and Tommy described Toby's behavior as strange and unusual, but Toby seemed almost afraid. Why?
The door opened abruptly, a slam followed behind. The two boys looked away from their phone screen to look up at their friend who had bursted through the door, his face holding a disturbed expression.
"Are you ok?" Nick asked his friend who had dropped his bag on the floor, leaving it behind without a care.
"Where's Alex?" Toby exhaled, his tone serious.
"In Nick's bedroom w-" Karl was cut off by Toby quickly marching his way down the hall. Nick and Karl shot each other confused looks before getting up from the sofa, now not too far along behind Toby.
Toby walked into Nick's room to find Clay and Alex lounging on the bed, homework sprawled out. The two looked up at Toby, confusion creeping onto their faces. Karl and Nick soon made their way to stand behind Toby to check in on the commotion.
"Toby are you ok? Your face is red and you seem tense-" Clay spoke the obvious.
"Alex, did you find anything today?" Toby looked to the dark-haired boy ignoring Clay's question.
