Why were converse so annoying to lace up? That's what Dianne thought every time she put on those shoes, but of course, they were her favorite pair. She stood up tucking her back behind her ears, inhaling.
This felt wrong, so so wrong. She twisted the door handle opening the door and walked outside. Exhaling she closed the door gently behind her. Her feet moved reluctantly against the concrete. Was she really going to do this? Dianne wasn't the type to go behind people's backs and have secrets from the people she cared about, and Wilbur was no exception. Yet she found herself talking with Toby behind his back and now she was going to go through the things in his bedroom.
When she spoke to Toby and Clay yesterday everything just felt like it wasn't real. But deep in the pit of her stomach, it felt twisted. Something about this wasn't right, none of it made complete sense. There were missing pieces of the puzzle, but Dianne was going to search for the last pieces right? Today she would put an end to all of this. Either she would find something to prove Toby and Clay's theory, or she would be able to finally prove to those two that Wilbur really wasn't at fault for anything here. But that text had her confused. Maybe it was edited? There was no way to tell.
The walk wasn't too long, arriving at the familiar porch in no time. Her eyes fell upon the tall door for a moment, not really looking at the door, more so staring into space. She felt completely horrible, everything about this felt terrible.
Reluctantly she raised to hand to the door knocking twice. She took a deep breath waiting for the door to open. A moment later the door opened, but she wasn't expecting the blonde to have answered it.
"Dianne? Hey!" Tommy smiled brightly greeting her. "Finally, now Wilbur will stop bothering me"
Dianne giggled softly. "Hey Tommy"
"Come in come in!" He moved to the side making way for her to step inside. The two walked inside, Tommy closing the door behind them. "Sorry, I know you probably weren't expecting me to be here" The blonde started, the two now standing in the middle of the living room. "I ended up staying over last night" He finished explaining.
"Please, it's cool with me. It's been a few days since I've seen you anyway" Dianne smiled, but her expression turned quizzical as her eyes wandered around the room. "Where's Wil anyway? I'm surprised he's not asleep on the couch" She laughed.
"Oh he went to get some lunch for all of us, sandwiches are alright with you?" Tommy asked hoping that what he suggested to Wilbur was a good idea. "Yes! Sounds amazing actually" She smiled. The two stood in silence for a moment, both looking around.
"Well, you're allowed anywhere, you know that. But you already knew that" Tommy looked up at the ceiling, his hand itching the back of his neck awkwardly. "I will be in the kitchen, lounging with a coke. Yes, the drug." He joked making his way into the said room, his eyes on the can on the counter. "Alright, don't you go sniffing it all, save some for me" She called out laughing.
Her laughter died down as she looked to the stairs. This was her only chance, it was perfect, Wilbur wasn't here so it wouldn't be on her list of worries. She quickly walked up the stairs, her heart pace quickening.
She made her way down the hall, her footsteps silent. She stopped in front of Wilbur's room, everything around her was still, silent. Inhaling she took a step along the carpet into the room, her eyes looking around at everything. Her feet started taking slow steps as she traced her fingers along the top of his desk. She slowly opened the drawer.
It was filled with wires, paperclips, old blackened erasers, and a couple of pens. She slowly shut the drawer, not wanting to make any unnecessary commotion. She then opened the closet, she was met with the familiar jackets, sweatshirts, and hoodies she had seen Wilbur wearing previously. Nothing was on the ground, and the only thing that was on the shelf was a binder labeled "Sheet Music".
