Back and forth, back and forth. The normally silent footsteps were now audible as he paced back and forth down the hallway. His fingers ran through his hair pushing it back, his breathing heavy."In and out, we practiced this c'mon" He whispered to himself. He tried getting a hold of himself but it had been a week since Dianne had rushed out of his house mysteriously and now he was getting paranoid.
The room began to spin, his pacing coming to a stop. He quickly made his way over to his bedroom, falling onto the bed harshly with a thump. Exhaling he closed his eyes trying to avoid the spinning ceiling. Counting down from ten he took deep breaths in between numbers, once everything felt still he opened his eyes being met with the ceiling once again.
She wasn't replying to his texts. She wasn't answering the phone. She would talk to him at school, or even shoot a glance at him. What had he done? He felt his face warm up at the thought, his hand reached over to his nightstand and picked up his phone. The screen illuminated with zero notification for the hundredth time today.
A frustrated sigh left his lips as he dialed his best friend. It rang for a few moments before a "Hello?" was heard on the other line. "Hey, how did it go yesterday?" Wilbur asked getting straight to the point of the call.
"Well," Tommy cleared his throat. "She actually had a conversation with me"
"That's great!" Wilbur smiled, this sounded like the greatest news he had ever heard. "But..." Tommy's tone got low. "But what?" Wilbur's smile quickly faded being replaced by confusion. "She definitely seemed perturbed when I brought you up" Tommy explained reluctantly.
"What?" Wilbur frowned. "When I tried to talk about you she seemed... angry..." Tommy trailed off, the disappointment in his voice obvious. Wilbur's heart sunk at his words, his frown growing. Angry? But why? The two had never gotten in a fight nor bickered, so what was this about?
"D-Did she say why?" Wilbur's tone quivered. "That's the thing, she didn't say why. Did you guys get in a fight or something?" Tommy questioned confused. "No..." Wilbur trailed off just as confused. "Huh. Weird." Tommy replied.
"Yea... All I did was go get sandwiches... Did anything happen when I was gone..?" Wilbur questioned, his tone low. "No, she got to your house like ten minutes after you left, I let her in and I told her just to chill wherever she wanted till you got back with the sandwiches." Tommy explained. "So she wasn't acting strange till I got there?" Wilbur asked, his brows furrowed.
"No, you got back with the sandwiches and that's when we both saw Dianne vomit in the upstairs washroom" Tommy responded simply. "Huh..." Wilbur trailed off, his mind going over everything Tommy said over and over. "So what do you think I should do?" Wilbur asked hoping his friend would have a wonderful suggestion that would solve all of this.
"Hmm... Well, you could always just go over to her house and talk to her, that's what I did. She talked to me even though I thought she wouldn't" Tommy suggested. "Maybe, you think so?" Wilbur asked, his tone hopeful. "Yea!" Tommy exclaimed. "I mean why not? Expect the unexpected"
"You have a point. Alright, I'll try that" Wilbur nodded his head. "Let me know how it goes if you decide to do so, I'll be here, I'm just finishing a paper." Tommy explained. "Will do" Wilbur replied hanging up. Visiting her didn't seem much of a bad idea after all, of course Wilbur had thought about it already but he was sure she didn't want to see him. And maybe she didn't want to see him, but at least he would make an attempt to talk things out with her.
He jumped to his feet, his heel hitting up against something. Bending down he looked to his heel to see what it was. It was the box, it wasn't neatly placed as he usually would have it. The lid wasn't even fully on the box. "Huh?" Wilbur was slightly confused by the slanted object under his bed, his brows furrowing. Soon he sighed fixing the lid on the box and fixing it's spot. Tommy had probably messed with it the last time he was here.
