The sun was just barely peeking over the school, it was completely dead outside. At least from what Toby could see, there was not a single soul that was awake yet, or at least out of the house. He took a big yawn looking over to the doors, oh how he wanted to get at least another hour of rest since he was up late.
But Toby didn't regret staying up, he needed to think of an elaborate plan to try and figure out this Wilbur guy. Toby needed to figure this guy out so he could get his friend back and help get Clay's friend back. Who knows, maybe George would come back and Toby's new friends and Tommy and Dianne could form one big group.
He pulled out his phone to see if Clay had texted him, which he did. "I'm walking up through the gates right now" Toby read before looking up to find Clay walking towards him with a wave.
"Hey" Clay exhaled, taking a couple more steps to reach Toby.
"Glad you made it" Toby smiled, ready to proceed with his plan.
"Of course, wouldn't miss it," Clay set down his bag. "So I brought the things you told me to bring in your text last night" He unzipped his bag revealing some flashlights, a ziplock plastic bag, a pair of gloves, and there was an opened bag of Doritos.
"Hungry?"Toby chuckled.
"Uh- just a little" Clay awkwardly chuckled.
"Alright so," Toby pushed the door open. "It's unlocked as I thought. So since I have the key to the files in the office, we should be able to find his locker combination."
"Are you like a professional criminal or something?" Clay asked, one brow raised.
"No silly," Toby let out a laugh. "It's called criminal minds" he moved to the side, letting Clay enter the school.
"Oh so you're one of those" Clay spoke looking down the dark empty halls of the school. "The school looks so weird when it's empty..."
"Indeed," Toby agreed. "Now, follow me this way"
The two boys made their way into the school's office, their flashlights lighting the way through the darkness. "Hey, Toby," Clay's tone became worried. "What if the staff walks in on us doing this?"
"Ah... Well, to be honest, I didn't think about that one..." Toby trailed off as he unlocked the cabinet of files. "Oh, ok, no problem!" Clay whisper exclaimed, sarcasm oozing out.
"Wilbur, Wilbur..." Toby searched through the student names one by one, the files had last names first but Toby had no idea what Wilbur's last name was so he had to search each and every one of the papers.
"Anything yet?" Clay asked playing with the switch on his flashlight.
"Almost..." Toby made his way to the I's. There was a sudden creak that echoed through the halls loudly. "Who's there?!" A voice yelled.
"Shit- Toby hurry up!" Clay whisper yelled. "I'm trying, hold up!" Toby flipped through the files as quickly as he could. Loud footsteps could be heard coming their way. "Shit shit shit!" Toby panicked, his fingers and eyes moved as fast as they could. "Wilbur Gold" the name was finally found. Toby grabbed the file and shut the cabinet as he shoved Clay and himself under one of the office desks.
The door slammed open. "Who's in here?!" The man yelled, his flashlight scanning around the room. Clay and Toby held their breath as they felt the steps creeping closer to the desk they were hidden behind. The footsteps paused for a moment, the light flashing around the room. Toby covered his mouth, trying not to make a sound.
