Chapter 33

Sam tried calling Meg, but she couldn't.

"Come on, Meg. Pick up the phone" Sam whispered.

Meg never picked up the phone.

"Sam, please hurry!" Chad sobbed.

"I can't. Meg's not picking up" said Sam.

Chad sighed in pain again. 

"They're trying. Just try to relax, lad" said Jeremy.

Chad nodded and said "Okay" through his tears.

"Just hang in there" said Sam as she dialed the number again.

At the hospital, Meg was in the operating room. 

"Meg. An urgent phone call for you" said Mrs Which.

Meg nodded and picked up the phone.

"Meg Murry" she said.

"Oh, Meg, thank god you answered. Your fiancee is in labor and we need help" said Sam.

"Oh my goodness. Get him over here" said Meg.

"We can't. We need you to talk us through how to deliver a baby" said Sam.

Meg started crying and said "I can't. I have too much on my plate. I really should get back to it".

Sam said "Okay. I get it" and hung up the phone with a loud frustration groan.

"She couldn't do it?" said Jeremy.

"No. This may be harder than we thought" said Sam.

Chad had another contraction and said "Well, if you're gonna do something, do it fast. I don't think the baby is going to wait".

"Gawrsh..." Sam panted.

"Obviously, waiting for Meg to come home isn't an option" said Jeremy.

"No" said Sam.

"Then what is?" said Jeremy.

"I don't know" said Sam.

Calvin and Charles Wallace came back a few seconds later.

"Okay. I got the first aid kit" said Calvin.

"And I got water and towels" said Charles Wallace.

"Great. We're gonna have to handle this ourselves" said Sam.

"What?" said Charles Wallace. 

"Gimme that phone" said Calvin.

"You're not gonna be able to reach Meg. She's unbelievably busy" said Sam.

"Oh, I'm not calling Meg. I'm gonna see if I can get another emergency service" said Calvin.

"Good idea" said Sam.

"Please hurry, Calvin. I'm scared and in a lot of pain" said Chad.

"We're scared too, Chad, okay? We're gonna help you through this" said Sam.
