"Tiger, I'm so sorry" His eyes didn't leave mine once as he lowered his face and leaned in closer.

"Kylie I.." My heart stopped as his face seemed to inch in closer with every milli second that passed. Was he going to kiss me? My inner voice was screaming with joy but on the outside I was frozen like ice. But he didn't instead he seemed to stop himself and kiss the top of my forehead.

"Kylie bear I just don't want you to get hurt." He curled his arms around me and pulled me close to his chest. As he held me tight I couldn't help but think that this feeling was what Jayden and I needed to be. Given the fact that he had only asked me to be his girlfriend a little over twelve hours ago. I shook the thought from my head and hugged him back.

"What do you say we skip the rest of the day and go down to the beach or something?" I nodded. The day hadn't stressful, for anything the exact opposite. However Dylan and I needed a day like this. A day where we could be best friends and forget the world. The beach was the perfect place for that.

He dragged me out of the building and to the parking lot. He tossed his bag to me as I threw it in the back of the car while he started it up and we drove off the school grounds like we had never been there. I don't remember a time I had ever skipped school, it was refreshing. I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket. One new text message from Zac.

Zac: Done with school so soon?

Kylie: ;)

I turned my phone from vibrate to sound so that if anyone needed to get in touch with me I would hear it. I rolled down my window and let my arm hang out, feeling the breeze flow through my fingers. Dylan grabbed my other hand as he drove. The feeling of his larger hands holding my smaller ones brought me back to the school.

Did I want him to kiss me? I couldn't stop thinking about it. Maybe deep down I did want him to, but I was with Jayden now and Dylan would only be my best friend. Right? Again I had to get rid of the thought and just clear my mind.

We reached the beach in no time and I was more than delighted to see only a few people jogging on shore. I actually became a little curious as to why Dylan wanted to go to the beach considering it was winter.

Getting out he grabbed a jacket for himself and me as we walked out to the beach. I slid my shoes off as we reached the sand and held them in my hands.  The sand was moist and cold under my feet and I dug my toes in deep making everything colder.  I began to walk along the water, barely letting it touch my feet.  Dylan walked along side me, neither of us saying anything.  We just enjoyed the silence.

"Remember when we were younger and we used come down here every weekend?"  Dylan asked as he reached out and grabbed my hand.  We walked a while along the sand, hand in hand.  All we did was talk about when we were younger and how we would play tag while our parents sat farther up watching us while they laughed and talked.  I remember when we had a sand castle contest between the two of us.  When we asked our parents to judge it mine said Dylan's castle while Dylan's parents chose my castle.

I let go of his hand and we both faced the ocean.  It was a deep blue with a dark gray covering over it.  To most people it wouldn't look very inviting, in fact it wasn't.  "Hey Tiger guess what?"  He turned to me and said What?  A devilish smile came over my face as I reached my hand out and tapped him on the shoulder.

"You're it!"  I ran fast, shoes still in hand.  He stood shocked for a while until a smile played out on his face and began running after me.  He chased me near the end of the beach until he finally caught up and tagged me back.  I chased him back to our stuff before he stopped and I plowed straight into him causing both of us to fall to the ground.

Somehow, on our journey down he had caught me making me land on top of him.  Being conscience of my weight I quickly sat up, making me straddle his hips.  I stared down in his light colored eyes and watched as they flashed every emotion possible.  Happiness, love, even anger.  I gently placed my hands on his chest, feeling his heartbeat race under my palms.

For the third time in one day I thought of kissing my best friend.  Not just a friendly peck on the cheek but the full sha-bang.  Before I could act on my feelings my phone vibrated from in my pocket.  A soft groan came from Dylan and I had to keep myself from making the same sound.  I answered it without checking the caller ID.

"Hello?"  I crawled off of Dylan and sat on the sand pulling my shoes back on.

"Kylie, where are you?"  It was Zac.  His voice seemed frantic and panicky.  I told him I was at the beach with Dylan and he took a deep inhale.  "I need you to get to my house please.  Nikki is there and my mom is trying to keep her out but she wonʻt stop trying.  Iʻm headed to my car now."  Before he could continue I had already grabbed Dylan's hand and headed to the car.

"I'm headed there now."  I hung up with Zac and looked over at Dylan.  He was both confused and worried.  "Nikki, Lily's loser of a mother, is at Zac's trying to get in."  With out me having to continue he nodded and got in the car and started out.  The drive was only five or six minutes of nothing but silence and tension.

When we pulled up Nikki was outside yelling at Jennifer, Zac's mom, to open the door.  From the outside you could tell that all the windows were locked and closed with the drapes blocking any view someone could have into the house.

"Open up Jennifer!  You can't keep me away from my daughter!"  She must have heard the car because her head turned faster than I thought humanly possible.  Her gaze was fixated on me as a small smirk played at the corners of her mouth.  I opened the door cautiously as she turned her whole body my way.

"Well if it isn't Kylie.  The girl trying to take my baby away from me."  Any hint of her smirk was gone as her eyes landed on Dylan.  "Is this another one of your call boys?  I have to give you props first Zac, then Jayden, and now this cutie."  Her eyes trailed up and down Dylan making me shiver.  She looked a lot like a lion eyeing up a weak piece of prey.

"Nikki, he has nothing to do with this.  What are you doing here?"  I had closed the door and Dylan was by my side in no time with his hand on the small of my back.

"Isn't it obvious.  I. WANT. MY. DAUGHTER!"  I didn't take my eyes off of her as she turned and faced Jayden and Zac who had both just arrived.  "Look Kylie all of your boys here."  I finally peeled my eyes off of Nikki and focused on Jayden who had his eyes focuesd on Dylan's hand which was still holding my back.  I inched away from him and when he looked over at me I looked back and then looked over at Jayden.  He seemed to understand.

"Nikki, leave."  Zac was staring striaght into Nikki's soul, well thats what it looked like.  She stepped closer to him and they were almost nose to nose.  I couldn't hear a single word that either were speaking but Zac looked ticked off.

Jayden made his way over to me and held my hand in his.  He intertwined our fingers and gave it a little squeeze.  I looked up at him and he smiled at me then looked over at Dylan.

"We're together now."  It was all he said before he looked back at Nikki and Zac.  Dylan didn't seem to like the way he said it and threw his arm around my shoulder.

"But I will always be her best friend."
