THEY SHOVED THEIR WEAPONS INTO THE WHOLES OF THE FENCE. Everyone watched for more coming from behind. Rick started to create a hole in the fence so they could get through. Once it was large enough Daryl held it open, "Thanks cowboy," She said as she got through.
Daryl and Rick closed it with some rope. They were safe for now, that safety wouldn't last. Daryl pushed open a gate and Samantha ran behind him. They headed to the main gate where vehicles could enter. "You ready?" She asked Daryl, "Nope." He said popping the p. She sighed and Rick started giving an encouraging speech. She blocked it out looking at them as they pushed against the fence trying to get to her.
"Kill me do it," She saw her father, he was just like them. She squeezed her eyes shut, she felt a hand on her shoulder. "You alright?" He asked, "Yeah, just want to get this over with." She looked at Daryl. "How do we shut the gate?" Hershel asked.
"I can do it," Glenn volunteered. "No, it's a suicide run." Maggie cared for him, that much was obvious, "I'm the fastest," He said. "I'll do it, I'm one for suicide," They didn't get but she did, it wasn't a good joke to make. "Too soon? I shouldn't make that joke, sorry. Glenn, you may be fast, but I'm a fucking gymnast I was running miles every morning at 4." She said. "Plus, I broke a record for the highest anyone in this state as jumped." She shrugged.
"Are you sure?" Glenn asked, "Glenn look at me in my eyeballs," She paused she said it like that on purpose trying to bring a more light-hearted tone to the conversation. "I. Can. Do. This. If I can't I'll send you all apology letters from my grave. Deal, plus you can't leave Maggie and your little romance." He and Maggie shot her an angry gaze.
"Shit, sorry. Don't kill him, Hershel he's a nice kid, I thought it was obvious. Yeah, I'm gonna shut up before I make it worse." Daryl chuckled as a blush spread across Maggie and Glenn's face.
"No, Maggie and Glenn you go that way draw as many away. Carol, you've become a pretty good shot, take your time don't rush it. Hershel, you and Carl take this tower. Samantha are you sure you can do this?" He asked. "Yes, I am sure. You think I am just good with a sword, I'm fucking amazing. Not to toot my own horn, I can do a lot more than you've seen me do." He nodded letting out a sigh.
"Rick, I'm gonna be fine. All joking aside, I can do it. Plus out of everyone here, I have the least to lose." She gave him a small smile. He pulled her in for a hug, she couldn't help but hug him back. She pulled back, Glenn handed her the thing she needed to close it. Everyone else would distract the walkers. "See you soon Sheriff." She turned around, "Don't die," Daryl said.
"Have I ever been one to die?" She asked and didn't expect his answer. "Yes, yes you have." She laughed, "Yeah your right, I won't die this time though." She wanted to do something, to hug him or something. "If I live, I can repay you," Her tongue came across her lip. He was the only one who saw it, and his eyes watched the movement.
