This chapter is in two-part, each part too short to be its own chapter. So two parts:)
Part One
She saw Daryl, Rick, and Hershel head outside and followed after them.
Once she was with them Rick started to talk, "It's the only way," He said. "Quite the dramatic," Samantha mumbled. "No one else knows." Samantha leaned against the wall, turning her head to look at the walkers at the gate. Trying to get to her, "You gonna tell 'em?" Daryl asked, it was the first time she heard her voice since last night.
"Not till after." She knew no one else could be as good a leader as Rick, he that authority a Sherriff would have. And she respected his decisions. "Is it such a good idea not to tell the others?" She couldn't answer due to being around people. "We have to do it today. Keep it quiet." Samantha nodded.
She looked at her hands, the feeling of the gloves was new and was gonna take time to get used to. "You got a plan?" Daryl asked ready to follow Rick. "We tell her we need to talk. Away from the others." Samantha wanted to argue, "Rick I don't mean for this to come off wrong. You sure you should be keeping this from the others? You're grieving I get but they don't, they already think you are going off the rails. Are you sure it's a good choice to lie to them?" Rick looked at her saw the look on her face, she knew what she said was harsh but didn't mean it to be.
"We need this alliance to secure our safety. I don't like lying to them but we don't have a choice." Samantha moved from the wall, "There's always a choice," he snapped, from stress, he didn't mean for it to come out at her. "Did you choose to shoot my wife?" He immediately apologized. "No it's fine Rick," she looked away backing down from the conversation.
"This just ain't us," Daryl said and she was shocked he agreed with her. "No. No, it isn't." Hershel also agreed. Hershel headed back into the prison. "We do this, we avoid a fight," Rick said stepping closer to Daryl. "No one else dies."
"Rick you can't promise that." He looked at her nodding. "I know," he sighed. Daryl nodded twice before speaking "All right." Rick looked at the walkers at the fence, "We need someone else." Daryl looked down as he realized who Rick wanted. "I'll talk to him," Daryl said looking up.
"I'll do it," Rick spoke looking at the walkers. "I'll go with you," Rick shook his head, "No," Samantha rolled her eyes but didn't say anything. "Just me," Rick said and Samantha saw the worried look on Daryl's face. He was worried that something would happen to Rick, "Your brother wouldn't do that to you." She said coldly and he looked at her not believing her.
"He wouldn't intentionally put you through pain." She knew despite what Merle may think of the group he knew the importance to Daryl. Rick walked inside leaving Samantha and Daryl alone. "Thanks," she said loud enough for him to hear. "Whatever," he spoke looking around.
She scoffed, "So we're at this point?" She asked looking at him. "What point?" He asked gripping the strap to the crossbow. "You got mad at me, for what asking you to touch me when you instigated it?" She asked he shook his head, "You know damn well that's not the reason!" He snapped annoyed.
