Tw: Hanging
Dream heard people coming down the stairs. They sounded like they were wearing heavy, metal armor. Dream stood up from sitting on the stone cold floor to see three armed guards come into the corridor. One unlocked his cell door while the other two came in.
"Hands behind your back." The first guard demanded.
Dream did as he was told and the guard clamped ice cold cuffs around his bruised wrists causing his hands to clench and him to shiver. The guard pushed him forward and out of the cell. They directed him back up the spiral staircase and into the castle corridors.
Two of the guards walked in front while one walked behind Dream holding onto the chain links between his wrists. They shoved him outside into a palace courtyard. It was a bit cloudy and looked like it was about to rain but the courtyard was filled with people dressed in fancy clothing.
They all curled their lips when they saw him. A few had crooked smiles. Probably some people he stole from. He saw the wooden stage with a horrid rope noose that hung down from a wooden beam.
The guards pushed him up the stage. A few of the royals and rich giggled at seeing him in chains. The guards pushed him to the front of the noose. He felt the trapdoor-- that dropped out from below wobble a bit from his weight. He'd be lying if he didn't have horrible thoughts running through his mind.
A plump man with a black bag over his head with holes cut into it for eye holes brought the noose over Dream's head and tightening it so it pinched the back of his neck allowing the guards to step away. This was it. He knew he couldn't trust a royal. He was going to die all because he trusted a royal instead of figuring out an escape plan of his own.
The general stepped up on the stage, looking out at all of the people, "Our king, King Eret the III was able to catch the thief, Dream. Who stole the fallen queen's crown and has done many other injustices against us. Justice will fall upon him today. " Technoblade looked at the executioner and gave him a simple nod. The executioner grabbed a wooden lever and was about to pull it as the rich watched with anticipation.
Dream closed his eyes, giving up on fighting. He did a lot of good things for people like giving them a meal when they were starving. He stole from the people that had too much money that didn't know what to do with it and gave it to people who needed it.
He heard the lever switch down causing the trapdoor below his feet to open, dropping him. There wasn't any pain like Dream thought there would be. His feet hit the ground and he fell on his back. Dream opened his eyes as a few of the people screamed. Dream was under the stage. An arrow was lodged into the wall behind the broken noose. the broken rope swung back and forth like it was slashed apart.
He was still in a bad position. He was trapped under the stage with his wrists bound. He kicked the trapdoor closed so no one could follow him down, holding it closed with his legs. People were talking and guards were yelling above trying to get to him. He looked around. In one corner sat his axe and familiar white smile mask.
"Wow princess." He thought.
He kicked the mechanism that kept the trapdoor closed and broke it so it couldn't be reopened and made his way over to the axe. He wrestled with the chain on the blade. He finally got the point to pry open one of the links and took the destroyed noose off of his neck. The cuffs were still on his wrists but he could figure those out once he was in a safer place. He put the mask back on his face and grabbed the axe. He saw a small slip of paper that was laying on the ground with fancy lettering on the front.
"Meet me behind the bakery."
He assumed it was the princess. She trusted him to actually meet her there instead of just escaping and not having to worry about dragging a princess around? Then he couldn't affect the next generation.
