"Thanks." You said, stepping out of Baji's mom's car and waving as she drove off.
You stood in front of the juvie building and sighed. "Visit number one." You looked down at Tora, who was snuggled in your jacket. "Do you want to see another person named Tora?"
He meowed and nuzzled into your chest.
"Alright, you just look tired..." You deadpanned but didn't pay much mind to it. You made your way to the entrance and walked inside. "Hello there."
"Hey there. Who're you visiting?"
"Um... Kazutora Hanemiya."
The receptionist looked down, possibly looking at the records to see if you booked a visit two days before. "Alright, he'll be sent out."
You waited in one of the rooms, the plastic separation in front of you with little holes poked through. You saw the door open and Kazutora was led inside.
He looked at you and his eyes widened. "Y-Y/N..."
"Hey there." Almost immediately, Tora jumped out of your jacket and onto the table. "T-Tora!"
"Yeah?"
"No, not you." You picked up Tora, the cat, and held him close to you with a smile. He was facing Tora, his pupils enlarging. "Tora-chan, this is Tora." You raised one of Tora's paws and made him wave.
Kazutora looked down, clenching his fist. "Why...?"
"Hm?"
"Why aren't you mad at me?" His hands began shaking, the cuffs around his wrist quietly rattling. "I killed two people that were so close to you... but you sent me letters and gifts during holidays. You even remember my birthday. Why are you still smiling at me and caring about me after everything? I expected you to hate me the most."
You went quiet, slowly putting Tora down onto the ground and letting him roam around on the floor. "You know, I tried." You let your hand fall and felt Tora's fur against your fingertips. "I tried to hate you. I felt like I was supposed to. But then I remembered that hating you would do nothing..."
"I know it wouldn't bring them—"
"Nothing for you."
Kazutora's eyes widened, his head lifting so he was facing you, but your eyes were still fixated on Tora.
"If I just hated you, you wouldn't gain anything." You finally met eyes with him, your eyes gentle but also... tired, in a way. "When you hate someone, it's not going to make you feel any better, and the person you're hating doesn't feel any better either. So it's just a loss on both sides. And at the same time, will they ever improve if you just keep hating that person? What would change?"
Kazutora shrugged. "Well, you wouldn't want to maintain a friendship with someone you hate, would you?"
"You're right, I wouldn't. But here I am." You showed him a small smile. "I'm not going to go through the pointless phase of hating you. I know that you actually really care about Keis— about Baji. And about Toman. So I'll be with you through all of that."
You pressed your fist against the clear plastic and let a solemn smile appear on your lips. "And... maybe this is just me looking for a silver lining, but if Baji didn't die, then you'd still just be some criminal, right?"
Kazutora looked at your fist and pressed his on the glass as well, right over yours. "Y/N, when I get out..."
"I'll be waiting. We can do whatever you want..." You got up and picked up Tora. "As long as it's legal." You stroked your hand on Tora's head, a few final words leaving m your mouth. "When one story ends, another always starts. Yours finally got a sequel."
