"MADDY, how's that feel?" Elizabeth asked the little girl who sat in front of her. She saw the case of a shot man who arrived at the E.R. that day and wasn't the only person who heard that the little girl was the shooter. The girl, Maddy was covered in blood, but was calm as a sheep as she sat in front of the PEDS surgeon.

"Does it hurt when I do this?" Elizabeth asked another question and Maddy shook her head. "Good." She than scanned her glossy eyes and blood covered cheeks before her eyes landed on a cut.

"What about this cut? Can you tell me, how you got this big cut on your cheek?" Elizabeth kept on asking as she turned Maddy's face.

"She's scared." Maddy's mother said, sitting down beside her daughter. "She's scared she did a bad thing and you're gonna take her away from me." The woman kept on talking, while she hold the little girl.

"The police will want to talk to both of you about how Maddy got the gun." Richard said as he walked closer to the hospital bed.

"We called social services and they'll be here soon. And they'll give you the support you need to come back from this." Elizabeth spoke calmly. "And nobody's gonna take you away from your mom, okay Maddy?" She turned to the girl.

"It hit her in the face. The gun, the kickback." Maddy's mother suddenly said, making Elizabeth look at her confused.

"Huh..." Realization hit her like a train when her eyes traveled from the daughter to the mother. "That looks more like, she was..."

"That's how she got the cut." The woman cut her off, her eyes snapping between Elizabeth and Richard before they settled on Elizabeth with a pleading look.

"Her daddy shoots targets in the backyard. He put the gun down for a minute. It was stupid. It was really stupid. She never meant to hurt him." The mother explained to the surgeons.

"Okay. You'll tell that the police that and it'll be okay." Richard spoke. "Everything'll be okay." He said, leaning closer to the girl. "

JAMES WAS ABOUT TO STEP IN A PATIENT ROOM, when he saw Lexie stopping beside the door with teary eyes.

"You okay? Why're you crying?" He asked as he walked closer to her, lying a hand on her arm.
