*A/N sorry it took so long I was doing uni exams having many existential crisis' and my birthday but it's here now! *
Freya was happily sat there, talking my ear off about everything that's happened the past year for her.
Her new job in Starbucks whilst she's studying addiction counselling at uni, the different boys she's been crushing on, the films and shows she's been watching and of course, the Avengers.
I knew she'd end up talking about them, she always does. But I was hoping she wouldn't.
I was trying my best to keep a stoic expression so she didn't think I was being weird but it was beyond difficult to even pay attention to her.
My mind was reeling over what Loki had just said.
Why did he say he was my boyfriend?
Why did he say it so fucking matter-of-factly?
And WHY is he just sitting there all calm, sipping his drink like nothing just happened.
"So Loki," Freya chirped, bringing my attention back. "Tell me about yourself, you look so familiar I just can't place it." Freya ponders, tapping her finger on her mug and I swallow hard, trying to think of something.
Loki places his hand on my thigh under the table and squeezed reassuringly. Just as he opened his mouth to speak Freya cut in again.
"Were you on the news or something? Even your name sounds familiar..."
"Well, yes... I think I may have been." Loki laughs and I just put my head onto the table knowing this man is incapable of not talking about himself.
"Shan? Are you okay?" Freya asks and I timidly raise my head.
"Frey... there's something I need to tell you."
"Are you pregnant? Engaged? Secretly married? Oh my god are you dying?!" She rambles and I can't help but laugh.
"No none of that, but I need to tell you about the last year and a bit and where I've been." I say in a low voice so as to not attract attention.
Freya notices my nerves and reaches across the table and places her hand over mine.
"Talk to me." She says with a reassuring smile.
I proceed to tell her everything, from the beginning.
Hydra (sparing her the gory details), Tony Stark showing up to my apartment, moving to New York, living in the Avengers compound, training with Nat and Steve, getting close with Bucky (again, sparing the details but more so for Loki's sake than Freya's), the parties and of course, my assignment aka Loki.
"Shut the fuck up!" Freya gasps when I finish speaking. "Wait wait wait wait... so Loki is Loki, the Loki? Of Asgard?" She whisper-shouts, mouth gaping open, eyes flickering between me and him.
"It's a pleasure to meet your acquaintance Lady Freya." Loki smirks, living for the attention.
Freya immediately blushes and I can't help but roll my eyes.
"But... Loki you... killed people..." she whispers.
"I'm afraid you're right. I have. Name me one Avenger, barring the Spiderling, that hasn't. I'll wait." He breezes, the smirk still plastered on his face.
"No no you're right. I just can't believe it's you! You're not here to bring aliens to London are you?" She laughs, only half joking.
"Rest assured, I mean no harm to Midgard. Anymore."
"I'm really sorry I didn't say anything before about any of this Freya, I really wanted to. I haven't told anyone, my family thinks I'm in New York for a job which technically isn't a lie. I was... I am, just trying to protect you and everyone else I care about." I say, tears in my eyes.
"Hey no it's okay, I completely understand." Freya smiles. "I just can't believe you're an Avenger! That's so cool!" She grins and Loki and I laugh. "Wait. I just realised, that means you live with Captain America right? Like the Captain America?!"
"Steve? Yeah of course!" I laugh.
"No fucking way. He's my favourite one! Other than you now, obviously." She winks. "And Thor?! Oh my god he is so hot!" She gushes and I burst out laughing as Loki scoffs, downing the rest of his drink.
