ROYAL PAPWORTH HOSPITAL,
Papworth Road,
Trumpington,
Cambridge CB2 0AY,
England, United Kingdom.GABRIELLA'S POV:
"Have a seat." Mrs. Akin smiled warmly at my mother and I as she directed us to sit in front of her desk.
"So what's the problem Doc?" I shot straight at her with agitation.
"Well, from what you said the doctors told you at the hospital she was born, they said something about a problem with her heart, right?" She rose a brow up.
"Yes they did but they didn't really tell me what it was. They said they weren't specialized in that area. I'm still utterly confused."
"Not all hospitals are equipped or have capable hands in the field of cardiology. But I assure you that here at Royal Papworth Hospital, we have more than enough to prove she's in safe hands."
"I hope so because if she's not, I'm gonna burn down this freaking hospital along with my father in it for telling me to come here." I deadpanned at her.
"GABRIELLA!" My mother scolded me. "I am so sorry she's just-"
"No no it's okay." The cardiac paediatrician assured my mother and I just rolled my eyes. "I have dealt with so many patients to know her behavior is extremely normal. In fact, I love her honesty. It shows she's a Dalmonte."
"I hope that's a genuine compliment." I glared a bit at her.
"As I was saying, due to your report, we had to run an echocardiogram test on her to see her flow of blood and detect for any complication that rose up in her heart during and after the pregnancy. Through the ultrasound test done on her, plus some signs of difficulty in breathing to which you testified to, appearance of pale skin, malnourishment, abnormality in her heart rate and excessive crying, we concluded with a diagnosis." She placed her palms on the desk and looked straight at me.
"What is it?" My mother asked.
"She has V.S.D. Which stands for Ventricular Septal Defect." There was a bit of worry of her face.
"What the hell is a V.S.D? And why does my baby have it?" My eyes grew wide with fear.
"In a layman's term, V.S.D is just a fancy medical term for a hole in the heart."
"A HOLE?!" Both my mother and I exclaimed which frightened Tequila. She flinched from her deep sleep and bursted in tears and cries.
"I'm sorry." I rocked her little self back to sleep. "I'm guessing it's really bad."
"Well, Ventricular Septal Defect is a congenital abnormality that sometimes happens during organ development in pregnancy. There are four chambers in the human heart which are divided by walls. And the walls in the lower chambers which by the way contain the left and right ventricle, a hole unfortunately was formed there which serves as an opportunity for the leakage of blood. A small hole normally doesn't have any symptoms like the signs I mentioned earlier but in her case, the bigger the hole, the more risk and damage done to her heart and lungs."
