Unedited
ended up spending the night at Tebogo's, it was amazing how he has spent a long time with Nondi but still hold her to high regard. She also respects him and that's powerful. I'm at the gate so I get off and open it, it's not locked. There's also a car parked outside, I don't know it. I drive in then take Denzhe with me in my arms, she's not as light as she used to be. The door is locked so I knock.
"Wanga..." my mom wearing a gown as if she's been sleeping
"Mma, are you going to open the door?" I ask
She looks shocked to see me but I did tell her I will be back for Christmas.
"Ooh yes, jenani." She unlocks the butler
I get inside.
"No tshimbila hani?" She asks taking Denzhe from me
"Zwavhudi nga maanda, ndo vha ndo tovha tuvha" I say
She smiles.
"Fhulu ndi nnyi are nnda?" The heck!
Someone is calling my mom by her name and it happens to be a man, he's fair and Tall. He freezes when his eyes meets mine.
"Wanga this is Khuthadzo Nyatela..." my mom trying to be less awkward
"Ndi khou takelela uvha divha" I say
He clears his throat first.
"Na nne Wanga, excuse me" he walks back to the main bedroom
There's silence.
"Are you happy?" I ask looking at her
She smiles at me.
"I know he'll never replace...."
I cut her off "Mma, zwine nne nda khou toda u divha asi hezwo. Ndi uri vho takala na?"
"Yes, I'm so happy." She says
"Ndi zwezwo zwire vhuthogwa kha nne. Arali vho takala na nne ndo takala." I say
She smiles at me.
"I'm sure you're hungry, let me cook." She says
"I'm a bit tired, I just want to take a nap." I say
"No problem, I'll be with Denzhe in the meantime." Her
"Okay" I walk to my room then change to my Pajamas and sleep.I ended up sleeping till late, but hunger woke me up. Not having to worry about Denzhe has its peaks, I can nap the whole day. I walk to the living room and find my mom alone watching Indians. She smiles as I join her.
"You're in a good mood, where's Khuthadzo?" I ask
She laughs before answering.
"Please Wanga, stop being dramatic."
"I'm not, I'm just creating a conversation with my mom. A less awkward one..." I say
She shakes her head.
"He's gone, he had things to attend to." She adds
"Should I ask what kind of things?" I ask sarcastically
She raises her eyebrow. "No."
"So...how is everything?" I ask
"Let's not have this conversation at all." She says
I sigh relieved. "Agreed."
"How have you been, since the break up?" She finally asks
"The divorce mom, I'm okay. Just trying to fix my life without really fixing it. I seem to be one cursed soul..."
She raises her hand.
"Ni songo amba hezwo zwithu Wanga, ngau tori zwithu azwi khou tshimbila vhutshiloni hani, azwi ambi uri ni na curse."
"All my life, I've been building things and I spent most of my time witnessing them crumble. I had never been happy in life, muthu u tea u lovha or u tuwa vhutshiloni hanga." I stop
My mom looks sad. I try to smile.
"You remember when I was young, I would cry a lot. It's like I knew life would give me a lot of pain, so I just had to practice. When I lost Dakalo I cried, when I lost Papa I cried, when I lost Nkhumbuleni I cried, when I lost maanda I cried, when I lost my womb I cried and now when I lost Thiko I cried." I don't want to be emotional so I stop
"But you survived all that..." my mom trying to pick me up with her words
"Yes, I survived all that but it took something out of me. Every loss took something out of me. Thiko said he was tired, every time he thought he was happy with me something bad would happen. I was mad at him but then deep down, I knew he was right. I don't know who's mistakes I'm paying for, but this is some real shit going on." I explain
My mom doesn't say anything but look at me like she's thinking about something.
"Don't say that..." She says after a while
"What's on your mind?" I ask
She hesitates then smiles at me.
"It's nothing..."
That's rather odd, but I don't want to focus on my love sick mom now.
"Hello good people..." and that's my cousin giving life to the room.
"Where do you get the energy?" I ask
He hugs me then my mom.
"On God we trust, that's my only source..." he sits next to me.
I don't even want to argue with him because I'm certain that's not the source of energy, there's more to this than meets the eye.
"Lufuno, hurini?" She asks
"I'm good thanks and you?" He says still happy
"I'm good, how's everyone at home?" That's my mom
"Everyone is good..." he then stares at me
"That's good, let me go and check Denzhe then I'll prepare something for you to eat..." she gets up
"He not a guest mom..." I state
"Ignore her" lufuno says
My mom laughs and leave us.
"You feeling nostalgic being home?" He asks
"Yes and also weird that everything has changed." I say
He doesn't say anything but look at me.
"Mini?" I ask
"Nothing, I was just thinking we could go out..." he says
"I'm not in the mood for drinking and partying..." I say
"No, for lunch. You're in a bad mood, you need something sweet or that white guy...what's his name again?" Lufuno
"Shut up" I hit his arm but he laughs
"Let's go, go freshen up..." he says
"I've already freshened up" I say
He doesn't say anything but look at his phone.
"Really?" I ask
"Fine I'll change" I walk to my room.
