It was a beautiful warm and sunny day out here in California. There was a slight breeze blowing so it wasn't so hot like it normally is. I was currently sitting on my back deck sipping on my coffee just enjoying the peace and quiet. My boyfriend Cody was still in the bed sleeping. He got back from his away game last night at around 1 o'clock this morning, so he definitely deserves all the sleep he can get. The Dodgers were playing so well at the moment and Cody could not be more excited.
As I'm sitting here I start to imagine what it would be like if Cody and I had a dog together! They say a dog is one of the best things to get to see if you and your significant other are ready for a child in the future. I mean his birthday is coming up in 2 days... maybe that can be one of my gifts for him! I had already picked him up a few small things like some nice button down shirts, and a cedar box for his World Series ring to go in. I'll try and be slick and bring up cute dog breeds to Cody then maybe I'll get an answer out of him on what kind he would want.
As I was sitting outside I had no idea that sleeping beauty had gotten up. As soon as I went to grab my coffee mug I felt a pair of hands come around my shoulders making me jump back almost spilling my drink all over myself. Of course it was Cody. I glared at him which caused him to laugh then take a seat right next to me. He said that the Dodgers had 4 days off before their next series of games against The Padres. He said he was glad to have some time off, and it gave him time to go out and get some more weight lifting time in. I asked him if he had anything special that he wanted to do for his birthday coming up and he said "just a small dinner with his family at Nobu in Malibu." I told him that would be nice and low key. I also mentioned that I would call his parents and siblings and make sure that they can come also. With his family being in Arizona they are a few hours away from us here in Los Angeles. He said "that sounds good to me baby." After about an hour or so of sitting outside Cody said that he was going to go take a shower. I told him I was going to be finishing up some laundry and watch some television shows that I had recorded. Once I knew he was back upstairs I decided to call his mom. Once I talked to his parents and told them the plan of his birthday dinner and surprise they said they would come.
After Cody and I had both gotten ready we decided to go spend the day doing some shopping and finding a new restaurant to go and eat. While we were shopping on Beverly Blvd we passed by Vanderpump Dogs which is rescue center for dogs. Cody lit up like a Christmas tree when he saw the dogs in the store then he looked at me saying "can we go in and look at the dogs Y/N?" Who would say no to his beautiful face and those icy blue eyes am I right? I looked at him and said "yeah we can." —Time Jump—(2 days later) Today was now July 13th which was Cody's birthday. I was so excited for today but I knew that I had to not be too suspicious or Cody would know something was up. While Cody was sleeping in this morning I decided to go out and get us some coffee and chocolate croissants. When I got in my car I called Cody's teammate Clayton Kershaw who is helping me hide the dog I got for Cody. I decided on this cute black and white cattle dog that Cody and I had seen a few days ago, with her being a rescue she's already a year old which is fine with us. Clayton said that he would keep the dog at his house while we are at dinner, about halfway through the meal I'll text him and say to go ahead and bring the dog over to our house.
It was finally time for us to meet up with Cody's family for his birthday dinner. I told Cody that I would drive so that he could celebrate with a glass of wine or beer he could. I can always drink at home when we get back later on. When we got to the restaurant Cody went to use the restroom so that gave me time to tell his parents about our plan for after dinner. They loved the idea and can't wait to see his face when he sees Trixie our new dog. Once his siblings arrived it was time for us to get seated at the table that was set up for 6 of us. After we ordered our food we just made some small talk with each other talking about Cody's schedule, my work, what we watch on tv, and how everyone else was doing. When our food came I got a text from Clayton that he was going to start getting ready to go and then he will be heading to our house. Of course Clayton sent a picture of Trixie waiting on him.

It was finally time to leave the restaurant and head home. I told Cody that I would give him his presents when we got home. Once we got home his parents pulled in right behind us in the driveway. When we got inside I had Cody go and sit on the couch in our living room.I told him I had to get his presents. Once I had them all I gave them to him. He opened the first 2 gifts and then he got to the last one which was a pink dog collar and a Dodgers dog jersey. He looked at me and jumped up and ran outside to where Clayton was standing with Trixie our new dog!
