Those words echoed in Historia's mind as she oversaw the renovating of the closest building to her palace. The four floors were filled with beds.

Delphine and William busied themselves with preparing food and remedies, Delphine preparing her mindset to heal and William warming the water for tea to ease his nerves and the soldiers. Delphine's healing was beautiful and magnificent and shocking to those who had never seen it before.

William was preparing himself to see his friends and to do all he could to help heal the smaller wounds of the soldiers. Despite serving with Delphine and the others, he preferred to use water to heal. He was one of the few in the kingdom who wanted to learn. Since he rarely fought with water it was easier to have the mindset of a healer, thus enabling him to help Delphine.

Delphine looked up to find William concentrating on a bowl of water. It was glowing slightly and she smiled to herself. She knew tomorrow and the days to come would move smoothly. Especially if she focused on the needs of her soldiers and even more so with William's help.

Taking William's distraction, Delphine entered the hallway of the hotel Historia was currently remodeling. Delphine walked into the lightly lit room, her eyes resting on the basin of water against the wall.

She could see a woman in the water, but she couldn't recognize her. The dead look in her eyes, the frizzy curls she didn't bother to touch up, and the indents on either side of her cheek where the screws kept her quiet. The scars were clean, almost looking like dimples if she smiled. She thanked William for that.

The woman's shoulder however had scars barely healed. Delphine knew she should be thankful William did what he could. Still, she gripped her fist on the side of the basin, causing the water to instantly freeze.

What emotion caused that? Fear? Anger?

Frustrated, she stepped back, her eyes now resting on the pink mark on her leg. She'd forgotten it's existence for a moment. The way it curved around her leg, forming the shape of an aster flower representing her mark for royalty.

It was darker than she remembered.

"Delphine!" She heard William call for her.

"One second," she struggled to say as she fixed her blue and white floral gown. Adjusting the sleeves and retying the laces in the front.

As Delphine exits the bathroom kicking her gown out from under her she met William in the hallway. He smiled to see her still intact.

"Preparations are finished Delphine," he clasped his hands in front of him, "next on our list today is to help the cooks finish preparing dinner."

She nodded and allowed him to begin walking down the stairs.

Delphine followed him, but as she came off the last step a new voice filled her messy thoughts.

His voice was familiar and she missed it deeply. She caught her balance on the stone wall, as he spoke and with his words she could see him.

I'll be back by sunset, the others by tomorrow's sunrise. Noah whispered across the water. She could see him riding across the sand, the sun barely passing midday. He was exhausted and his expression was downcast.

Just as quickly as he came, he was gone, the image of him and his comforting voice.

"You heard it too?" William asked as Delphine nodded, they matched one another's pace attempting to keep up with Historia.

"Your highness," William bowed, "Queen Historia," Delphine tilted her head.

Historia was surprised at the sudden title coming from both, enough to turn from the food she was picking out.

Delphine spoke up this time, "We received word from Noah he'll be here by sunset and those left by sunrise tomorrow," she swallowed deeply, her nerves threatening to free themselves from her mouth. She held onto her hands tightly, knowing otherwise they'd be shaking.

Queen Historia now felt sick. If anyone else were in the room she'd nod and go about her task, but with Queen Delphine and William at her side she didn't feel the need to hide it.

"Right, we um.. we need to," she paused attempting to collect her thoughts, "what's next? What do we have to do?" She couldn't think straight.

Delphine stepped forward, her hands raising to Queen Historia's shoulders, "William why don't you finish up the food and then come join us in her throne room?"

William nodded once, thankful for Delphine.

Queen Historia didn't say a word as her and Queen Delphine exited the kitchen both of there guards following at a safe distance.

The guards watched as Queen Delphine guided Queen Historia to her throne. A cup then floated towards Queen Delphine who gently poured water from the air they assumed into the cup. They could tell Queen Historia was grateful as she sipped the water.

So began a waiting game.

───

To the guards who stood there, it felt like hours. For Sir William, Queen Delphine and Queen Historia it wasn't enough time.

In the midst of this Queen Delphine had begun braiding and unbraiding Queen Historia's hair. It was relaxing for both of them. And Sir William had been running everywhere it seemed. Making sure the Queen's were eating and drinking.

No one had spoken in hours and now  Sir William was sitting on the stone floor, his knee moving up and down.

A knock split the doors open, "I present Sir Noah of Atlantia," a soldier spoke up and bowed before quickly stepping away.

Delphine had never seen William jump up so quickly or Noah embrace someone so tightly. It made her smile even for a moment.

Historia stood up, holding onto her hands to keep them from shaking, "I'm glad you're here," she nodded, before pulling him in for a hug next.

As she pulled away one thought weighing on her mind. "How many are left?"

Noah pulled back, "Less than 50," swallowed his guilt the memories of the war in his mind, all of it flashing back.

Delphine was horrified. "Did we win?" She asked, her mind wandering to who all could be left.

Please. Lake, Oliver, Levi... the kids. Please make it, Delphine whispered to herself, I need you.

"What went wrong?" Historia asked at Noah's lack of response to Delphine and still he could say nothing.
