Lake could hear the thunder rolling by a dark cloud gaining on them. It surpassed them quickly, the other scouts watching it for a moment as the horses raced across the green field. Oliver was quick to push his horse now racing side by side with Lake.

"She must have finished meeting with the Orphans," Oliver stated, causing Lake to nod, "We'll soon be switching to walking, the clouds should keep the moon hidden tonight."

Oliver grinned, "Keeping the titans from attacking, Queen Delphine is getting smarter."

Lake chuckled, "It won't be long before she doesn't need us anymore," she stated almost comically sad, causing Jean beside them to laugh out loud, "Yeah right and that doesn't mean she's badly reliant. She knows you have her back."

Oliver shrugged, "She's not wrong there."

Levi catching the conversation, yelled aloud "Oi! Do you lot normally chatter so much during what we call expeditions?" The green cape behind him flying in the wind.

"More or less," Lake tossed her head back and forth, "Not only does it help the nerves, but it also eases our subordinates. We try not to be too harsh on them leading into the battle because they know to focus when we get there."

Armin was quick to agree, "That makes sense, most of our expeditions are either rushed or carefully planned, however, no matter what we do the titans are always unpredictable."

Oliver sighed, "Let's just hope those weeks of practice on both the dummies and live titans have prepared us for this moment."

Mikasa nodded, "I must say, I was quite impressed with how easily you picked up on killing a Titan, especially with such precision and stealth even with how they actively avoided you. It's too much on me to say I have faith and confidence in this expedition," she paused the weight of her words settling in, "but I look forward to fighting alongside you all."

Her friends seemed to be more and more surprised at her outspokenness. First with Delphine, then with her aids. What next, was she going to make a joke? In any case, her trust in them caused the other scouts to swell with an emotion they didn't want to call confidence so as to give false hope.

Even without being able to describe it, it was there.

"WE'VE REACHED THE FOREST!"

Everyone knew that that meant. The horses came to a slow trot, at the pulling of the reins from their owners. They were thankful nightfall had just reached. Any titans they saw at a distance where both sleep and immobilized.

However, the feeling in their guts remained.

Armin sighed. "We're close."
