It'd been four weeks since the meeting. I was thankful to have dodged most of the ones to come. Especially after the embarrassing stunt, I pulled... acting like a child.
With that said, I hadn't seen Levi, Erwin, or Hange very much. Mostly because Levi and Hange took a trip to visit Shadis, on behalf of Eren. The scouts from Levi's squad joined them. The castle was quiet in their absence. Dinner was tame without Sasha and Connie's discussions, Jean and Eren's insults, and Armin's curious questions.
I heard from Historia they'd be coming back today, just in time for the feast.
I was quite surprised I hadn't jumped into the water yet. Maybe because I knew I'd only have a couple of hours to swim, get back to my room, and change for tonight's feast.
Or maybe it was because I was anxious. The thoughts of tomorrow's expedition causing my stomach to churn. I had come to learn that an upset stomach in water wasn't a good idea a while ago. So maybe I thought watching the lake was better.
I could hear the footsteps approach me, having a feeling who it was I didn't jump. I kept my eyes on the ripples that formed as the wind beat against the water.
"You're back."
"Yes, we got the information we needed," he explained, causing me to nod slowly, "Good."
A few seconds passed and his rough voice began, "Are you ready for this evening?" Stepping up next to me, his eyes on the water as well.
I smiled, my eyes lifting to the view, trees and hills in abundance, "Yes. I'm quite excited. Are you?"
He grumbled, "I would be, if I wasn't so worried about the reaction to the food."
I couldn't help but laugh, "That's a good thing. That means they'll enjoy themselves, if the reactions are as crazy as you think."
"You would say that."
We entered a silence. I closed my eyes, the warm sun beating on my skin. I folded my arms, the sheer fabric of my loose short sleeves hanging from my arms. The dress was higher in the front, allowing for wind to travel through the gown. It wasn't as hot and I was grateful for the design. I am glad I had more dresses like it.
He cleared his throat, "You know, uhm. That was mature of you," he suddenly said, "agreeing with Oliver even though you wanted to fight."
I shook my head, "I'm sure it seemed childish, I apologize for taking up so much of the meeting's time."
The grass rustled next to me as the man moved closer to me, suddenly my head became heavy. I looked up to see a pale hand pressing into my curls, he turned my head to face him.
His eyes seemed annoyed. Immediately I thought back to what I said. Did I say something to offend him?
"Hey, take the compliment." He seemed grouchy, "I don't give them out very often."
