The horses followed that of Moblit, Hange, and Levi. Others behind us to keep us in check I assume.
"So where did you say you came from?" Hanji asked as we trotted through the remnants of a beautiful town.
"A kingdom called Atlantia," Lake answered this time. I scanned the ground beneath us, the boring sand I was used to replaced by dried dirt, grass attempting to grow over the path worn by horses.
"What is the name of your kingdom?" Noah questioned, his notebook and pencil ready.
"Shiganshina," Levi answered in short, silencing the rest of the conversation.
Getting the hint, I instead watched our surroundings with a look of awe in my eyes. I'd never seen so many buildings together in my life. We finally reached a lively town, children laughing, mothers scolding, fathers smiling fondly. At a quick glance, it was beautiful.
"Your majesty," William muttered grabbing not just my attention but also those in front of us, "your hood."
"Right," I pulled the soft brown hood from my shoulders to over my head, the dark long curls spilling over my arms, "thank you."
He nodded as I turned back to the crowds, who yelled appreciatively. No one yet recognized the stowaways and for once I was grateful.
My hands rested on the soft fur of Elantress. She brought comfort to me, as we continued our trek.
"Are you feeling any better Yeager?" Levi questioned his hard voice showing an ounce of concern to a young boy who somehow weaved his way through us.
"Yes sir," the boy nodded his voice soft, almost tired and deflated. I could feel his lack of hydration. In fact, almost everyone on the horses was clearly dehydrated. How their bodies could live on that was beyond me.
Of course, I was in water 24/7, I had enough to go around. The sun had set quite a bit when we came in view of a castle, around it lanterns lit with fires to provide a way.
"Eren!" A desperate voice called out, as the horses took their place on a stone courtyard.
"Mikasa, Armin," the tired boy greeted, Yeager must be his last name.
"Alert the queen of guests," Levi announced, sliding from his horse with ease, Hange, and Moblit doing the same.
Armin, I assume to be the blonde bowed, "Yes sir," before running off his duty coming before his excitement. My respect for these people grew.
I pulled myself off Elantress, pulling my hood down, throwing the curls over my shoulder, as Noah joined me at my side.
"Did you feel it?" He questioned, "That they're dehydrated?" I questioned as we closely followed the soldiers, the gear shifting with every step echoing against the stone hallways.
He nodded, "that and the fact it hasn't rained in more than 50 days, their soil is depleted, and the plants are grasping for there ends. I wouldn't be surprised if the next rain was a heavy storm."
I turned to him, "Agreed, I feel as if it's coming soon, it's as close as tonight and it may last for more than a few days at best," the moisture in the air was almost suffocating. The clouds were begging to be released.
He began writing in his notebook, as I took to examining our surroundings. Moblit had split down a hallway, Hange and Levi still leading us.
"The queen has prepared a meal for you all. I want you to know, I don't trust you one bit, but you have me curious," Hange explained standing in front of a wooden door I nodded, "and we thank you for your kindness and candor."
She pushed open the door, allowing us to enter first. I hope the Queen is kinder than the previous monarch, or things will get very dicey.
