I was very excited.
Historia arranged for us to have lunch in the common room with the other scouts. So I'd be able to meet them. I had yet to be introduced to the kingdom. Historia was in the middle of writing an article that would be released to the public explaining who I was so for now I was kept within the castle.
I thought I'd be nervous, but maybe after today's meeting and the change in scenery had pushed that away. Or maybe I was hungry.
Either way that also meant the scouts would be receiving quite a nice meal so it seemed as if I were giving something as well.
The room quieted down as William pushed open the doors. I smiled instantly upon spotting Lake, Noah and Oliver. They waved me over, causing me to eagerly bounce over.
"Hi guys!" I waved excitedly, before realizing the deafening silence. Maybe I should have been nervous.
William stepped up next to me greeting the others with the handshake exchange they usually did. As Historia joined us the chatter resumed mostly much quieter but it eased me enough to turn to the table they were standing at.
I grinned at seeing Armin and his friends, "Is this seat taken?" I questioned gesturing to one in between Jean and Eren.
Jean smirked, "yes, by you," causing me to laugh. I lifted the skirt of my soft pale dress, causing the males to look away. I was grateful for there respect as I slipped into the seat and then pulled my dress down, folding my legs.
"Thanks," I muttered quietly as they turned back, "no problem your highness," Connie grinned.
Immediately the embarrassment faded away and instead I was excited to eat, "so what's for lunch?" I questioned lifting my arm to lean on my hand.
Sasha was eager to answer, "potatoesssss," she grinned. Her excitement was contagious (thank you so much abbi, i would have never thought of this word) and I could almost feel it too. I couldn't stop the smile from spreading onto my face as I watched her speak animatedly.
Connie shook his head, "that's not how you eat it. It's so much better with meat."
Sasha's gaze hardened and she turned to face Connie, a glare present, "are we seriously going to discuss this aGaIn?"
There energy was suffocating in the most beautiful way possible. In the midst of all of this, they continued to be who they were. I turned to the others who watched the two discuss food. Mikasa seemed to be sporting a small smile, or was it a glance of amusement. Either way she seemed fairly content.
I almost laugh from Sasha's chaotic energy. It was refreshing.
I turned just as someone nudged my shoulder. I smiled upon seeing Noah.
"How'd the meeting go?" He questioned catching the other's attention. Silence fell between the table.
I nodded my head, "I believe the gifts helped to ease them, however they seemed to be most trusting when they learned of what we battled and how we won our war."
Oliver grinned, "What did we tell you? Queen Historia won't stop talking about your accomplishments," he added causing me to look down. I could feel my cheeks darken.
I shook my head, "She's too kind. Her side of the story laid the basis for me gaining there trust. Her proclamation of trust and guilt aided me to say what needed to be said."
I turned back to the table as someone sighed, "why do you never take a compliment?" I was surprised to see it was Mikasa.
The others turned to me expectantly, even Oliver. My guess is waiting for me to respond.
I shrugged, "Because 99% of the time what I receive compliments for are things I've accomplished with the help of others. It would feel wrong to take a compliment knowing someone else helped me to make the right decision, or gain someone's trust, or," I looked to my Aids, Oliver, Lake, Noah and William, "stop a war."
"Everything I've accomplished has not been of my own free will or strength, it would be selfish of me to take the credit."
Mikasa held my gaze as I finally turned to her again. I could feel the eyes switch between the two of us until she nodded, "I can see why you're a Queen. Not only are you kind or understanding, but you're humble and respectful. You could have ignored me, so thank you for answering my question."
I smiled feeling proud to have earned her praises. She seemed very hard to impress.
"To that end, I also would like to thank you for coming here. You could have ignored our kingdom and only thought of yourself and your kingdom," she looked down before shaking her head, "Which would not have been terrible either, considering your people deserve peace. So thank you for coming to us. Maybe we can have a chance and if not the fact you even thought of helping us makes me happy to have you as our allied kingdom."
The shock was palpable from the table. I didn't know what to say.
"That's very kind of you Mikasa," William stepped in for me, "yes," I nodded, "thank you very much Mikasa. It will be an honor to fight alongside you."
She nodded a small smile present. Gaining her trust took much longer than I thought, but it was definitely worth it.
