Summary: It's late, and Roman and Virgil discuss all (or some) of the secrets he had to hide in high school. Virgil also thinks back of memories of middle school to think if he ever found out the secrets before they were revealed now.
"Mr Roman Krol is a theatre teacher!" Virgil shouted as he collapsed on the bed, now dressed in pyjamas after finishing the bedtime routine with Nathan. Roman was getting changed in the next-door bathroom but a nervous laugh could be heard through the wall. "I could picture you being a coach or something but a theatre teacher? What happened to you in fourteen years?"
Roman soon emerged into the bedroom in a long sleeved thick red t-shirt and pyjama pants, rolling up one of the sleeves as he walked in and climbed into the other side of the soft bed. He yawned a little as Virgil continued to explain the theories he had on Roman's life. It was almost too much to listen to, but Roman felt more comfortable around Virgil than he had with anyone else in a while. "Well... There seems to be a lot you don't know about me."
Virgil silenced and watched Roman with wide eyes. Seemingly Virgil had relaxed after spending the day with adult Roman too – or maybe he was more relaxed in the body he should have been born in. "Tell me everything then!"
It was only a short silence as Roman thought. "I actually like theatre class. A lot."
"More than soccer?"
"More than soccer." Roman laughed, ruffling a hand through his hair and looking up slightly. "My friends don't... like the people that like that though so I just pretend I hate it and mess around in those classes too. I never thought I'd be able to work in anything concerning dramatics."
There was nothing really to say after that, so they just both lay into the bed more. Roman was obviously still smiling though, his mind thinking through an entire life of theatre as he realised how much he was looking forward to it. Virgil opened one eye after a minute and thought of another question. "How did you know our son's name was Nathan?"
Roman smiled wider hearing that question and brushed his curly hair away from his eyes again. "It's another theatre thing." Roman spoke so happily when he spoke about theatre, it was impossible not to watch his eyes finally glow more than they ever had when Virgil saw him in the school corridors. "He's named after my favourite character in my favourite musical – Nathan Detroit in Guys and Dolls. Kind of stupid I know but I always wanted to name my son Nathan."
Roman finally turned his head to the side to see Virgil with a mischievous smile and both eyes open watching the man he shared a bed with. "I'm fangirling aren't I?" The teacher softly laughed and turned to the side to face Virgil. Their noses were the maximum distance apart they could be on a double bed, but it felt as though their souls were millimetres from each other. "I just haven't had the chance to chat about theatre with anyone in a while." Smiles didn't leave the faces of the two men as Roman continued to explain the plot of Guys and Dolls – and how excited he was to teach a passion he'd had since childhood. The pair fell asleep like that – not minding that they were next to each other as they didn't want to stop Roman's rambles.

Virgil could remember when he shared one drama class with Roman – eighth grade. While Virgil was pre-coming out in anywhere other than in his own brain Roman knew well of his sexuality and was building up a wall to hide it.
"I'm on the stage!" Roman screamed, centre stage and proud of it, his arms out wide as he twirled. He seemed in his element a few feet above everyone else. His eyes were closed so he didn't seem to care. He just looked so free – even Virgil could tell that from the other end of the auditorium (he stayed by the wall so he could leave quicker).
Roman's free look disappeared when he heard the shout of his 'friends' who were at the bottom of the stage with takeaway McDonalds they managed to sneak into the class before the teacher saw them. "Stop being gay idiot and get down here."
Looking back, it was obvious that phrase hurt Roman. Virgil could see his confident stance become smaller as his eyes opened. He crossed his arms over his chest – like Virgil did everyday – and looked down at the people that controlled him as if asking for other command. When he jumped off the stage his friends' voices were quieter but still piercing.
"Do we have to be here?" One of the McDonalds boys mumbled as he engulfed as many fries as possible before the teacher spotted them and/or started the lesson. The three other boys were avoiding eye contact with her while Roman seemed to be watching her curiously. Virgil excused the difference as a possible slightly-creepy middle school crush. "I vote we sneak out and go to the theme park or some shit."
"Chelsea said if I buy her a Starbucks she'll give me a kiss under the bleachers." Another boy chirped up, immediately getting looks from his other friends who expected more from their classmates than just kisses. Virgil always found the expectation men had on women weird, even as a high schooler. "What? She's cute, don't you think Rome?"
Roman was still watching the theatre teacher shuffle through scripts and song sheets for her older and enthusiastic students. He was wondering whether he could escape the clutches of his popular friends and ask to audition for the next theatre play but he knew there was no luck in that. He was brought back to reality when he was punched in the arm. "Yeah, yeah she's alright." Roman said nonchalantly, dragging himself away from the theatre teacher and stuffing his hands in his pockets.
It seemed obvious from Virgil's outsider view that Roman was uncomfortable during any and all theatre classes – he just didn't know the reason why. Like opposite magnets Virgil seemed intrigued by Roman when theatre class rolled around. From one awkward person to another Virgil was wondering if he should talk to Roman and get him out his shell in these classes.
The teacher began the lesson before Virgil could even walk down one step though, giving a debrief of the lesson and a list of commands to partner up and perform. Virgil never liked theatre class – but he knew now how much Roman secretly loved it.
