Summary: After the exciting news that the teens were going into their own dimension again, Virgil begins to panic. He's reassured by Roman though and everything starts to feel... A little more different.

Exams are over so I'll probably start writing this again. I'm also working on my next book though but this will be a priority over summer!

And if you're having a bad day enjoy my cat :)

That night Roman shut the bedroom door after reading Nathan to sleep, a smile stuck on his face. He was smiling because of Nathan like usual – but also because he was finally going home. He will finally be back in his home, in his acne-filled teenage body, and he could figure out his revelation in his new sexuality and he had a new friend that could maybe be something more.

Roman turned from the door to spot Virgil tugging down his pyjama shirt, his hoodie abandoned on the bed as he tugged the bottom of his shirt and rubbed his chest. His gaze was concentrated and possibly forlorn and the pair were just silent for a few seconds. But Roman had to bring up the mood in Virgil's face.

"We're going home! Can you believe it?" Roman laughed, sitting on the bed and ruffling his hair with his wide smile. Virgil raised his eyes and tilted an eyebrow, grabbing his hoodie and hanging it up in the closet with just a mumble as a response. "Is high school really that bad for you?"

Virgil gave another confused look again but didn't say anything until he was also sat on the bed next to Roman. "You're still gonna call me Virgil aren't you?"

"Yeah of course, that's your name." Roman joked some more, hugging his leg as Virgil did the same. His hands still brushed against his chest as the solemn, concentrated look came over Virgil's face again. Eventually Virgil's knee rested directly on Virgil's chest, and his positioning became more and more like a ball.

"I won't be Virgil."

"You will be Virgil! You'll just... look slightly – different. But you'll always be Virgil." Roman tried to reassure and bring Virgil into a hug, but Virgil leant away and grumbled again. There might have even been a look of disdain in his face.

Virgil's voice had become low and raspy, as he tried to avoid his tears falling as he spoke. "I'll be a girl Roman. Everyone views me as a girl – even you until I told you otherwise! No-one really values me as Virgil, in the back of everyone's mind I will always be-" Virgil said his deadname with such venom and hurt, his voice raising until the name was uttered in a whisper.

Luckily Virgil had accepted the hug as he began to cry, his eyes were covered as he was completely in a ball. Roman didn't know what to say at first. He just held Virgil and watched him. It was true this physical transition changed Virgil's features, his voice was deeper and his body mass had escaped from his hips and thighs to become defined muscles on his arms and legs. But so many things were the same, like his eyes. Roman had believed Virgil's eyes had been beautiful since middle school.

"Virgil?" Roman uttered, nudging Virgil's cheek with his pointer finger knuckle to get him to look at him. So Roman could see Virgil's beautiful bright blue eyes.

Wait, didn't Patton say he fell in love with Virgil during his teenage years – and during the time travel incident? Because in this moment Roman was one hundred percent sure he had fallen in love with the person cuddled against him.

Virgil's eyes expanded as he watched Roman's glance. Roman's look of curiosity and security with a look inside that Virgil couldn't identify straight away. Their faces were close, maybe a dozen centimetres away, and that distance definitely worked to distract Virgil from his transitioning thoughts and instead move them onto the crush he had somehow developed during this time of being an adult. "Yes?" Virgil eventually whispered out, and he didn't get a response as Roman pursed in his lips. Were they about to kiss?

"Um, I know it doesn't mean much but now I know that you're Virgil I can't view you as anyone else. You'll always be just Virgil to me." Roman's voice was whispered, but earnest and gentle. He didn't need anymore volume due to their distance. But Virgil's mind wasn't focused on the words now – he couldn't stop thinking about the possibility that they could kiss right now. "Is everything OK Virgil?"

Virgil's cheeks were dusted pink and his mouth was slightly agape, his eyes were still shining but they seemed to be transported into a different world. His eyes met Roman's eyes as soon as his cheek was nudged, but now they seemed to look through Roman's gaze. After a few minutes his eyes then looked down – to Roman's lips.

The burst of adrenaline halted Roman's voice and he just felt amazement. Virgil was staring at his lips! But as quick as that moment happened it stopped, Virgil's eyes escaping down to his bitten nails again and he leant away from the hug to sit up straight again. "Uh, yeah... Thank you. It actually means a lot that you'll view me as Virgil whatever I look like."

Roman definitely loved Virgil. No doubt about that, he wanted to kiss Virgil.

"I-it's no biggie Hot Topic." Roman choked out, trying to calm his nerves but ultimately failing since the adrenaline was so strong. The nerves were only loosened a little when he heard the distraction of his phone ringing a tune from Pinocchio.

When Roman turned his phone screen on, he was surprised to see it was Logan calling him. The time was almost 10pm so it seemed too late for the nerd Logan was to call. He adored sleep more than the spoilt, dramatic Roman. "Huh, hang on it's Lo." Still, Roman answered the call with no hesitation and put the call on speakerphone. "You're on speakerphone, what's up Calculator Watch?"

Logan's voice was quick and slightly panicked, and from the outside environment the two bed dwellers could assume the college lecturer was driving. Hopefully he had one of those Bluetooth cars with a phone installed. "Right, this is going to sound like an odd request but I might have to stay round yours for a week. The lecture I'm meant to give has just been postponed for a week and it's too long for me to just head home."

"Oh, yeah of course that's fine." Roman was relieved to be distracted from his desire to kiss Virgil, as he stood up and covered himself with an evening nightgown so the definitely-couple could greet their friend. Logan said he was fifteen minutes away and assured he'd sleep on the sofa too not disturb the young family.

"Thank you so, so much. Really." Logan breathed out as he was finally welcomed into his friends' home. He didn't seem to be a fan of driving. "I'll be out of your hair in the week and I'm happy to pay for any extra meals you have to cook. I'll just be entertaining myself with my presentation flashcards."

"Hey, hey, it's no problem Lo. You want Crofters?" In all reality Logan adored the excitement of being with his friends for a week, they were such relaxed people and Nathan seemed like the cutest little kindergartener out there. He was already feeling at home as Roman got him a jar of Crofters jam and sat him on the sofa. Virgil was already in the living room placing every single blanket they owned around the sofa. The couple were always welcoming, but this was a little unusual.

"I would never say no, but is everything alright? I haven't come at an inconvenient time right?" Virgil seemed to hesitate his answer for a moment, before looking at Roman. Roman nodded slightly and encouraged Logan to sit with them.

Virgil leant forward and took a deep breath. He was ready to go home – maybe all these weird feelings for Roman Krol will stop then. Logan watched him with curious intrigue. "Well, we actually have a request to ask of you."
