Summary: Janus visits Virgil to confess the truth, but that truth closeted the true feelings Roman wants to explore with Virgil.

Virgil yawned over his Oreo cereal as he kept Nathan playing with train tracks at the corner of his eye. It was around 9am, Roman had head to work a couple of hours ago but Virgil was still half asleep. Kindergarten wasn't going to start in another hour so Virgil had the time to eat half a bowl of cereal and hear Nathan chatter about all his friends and the things he was going to learn. He was going to be as smart as Uncle Logan by the end of the year, apparently. Virgil wasn't going to tell him it would take a lot more years of schooling than just one.

But as Nathan was called to Virgil's side there was a knock at the door. "I'll get the door!" Nathan shouted and sprinted towards the door, grabbing his plastic toy sword on the way because it was Roman's responsibility to teach Nathan stranger danger a couple days ago.

"V... Ah, a child." Virgil recognised that slightly unimpressed voice as soon as he heard it, and it brought a smile to his face that he had to quickly hide. "Do you have parents here or are you going to defeat dodgy people with your Walmart sword?"

Nathan didn't seem to sense Janus' slight disappointment as talking to a child, he instead just ran back to Virgil's side again. Janus waited a second before cautiously following and closing the door behind him. The man was dressed in a suit as he was about to head to work, he had a $10 bill stuffed in his side pocket, and he was carrying a laptop bag gold and black to match his suit. He seemed a lot more relieved when he saw Virgil. "Alright – Virgil, is Roman here?"

"He's at work, did you need both of us for this... meeting?" Janus didn't answer at first and just sighed, looking down at the five year old that was giving both men wide eyes. There was some time before Nathan would need to rush to school. "Nate, can you check your bag is packed?" Nathan ran off happily, leaving both men looking at each other.

Virgil sneaked a small smile when the little boy had run around the corner. "So... Did you hear Remus got a date?"

"I did..." Silence again, now Virgil was a little suspicious on what was going on. A raised eyebrow was all he could manage. "Do you want to head home now?"

Now Virgil was silent, thinking and refreshing himself on he and Roman's conversations. Sure, Virgil wasn't looking forward to the transphobia and living alone and he knew Roman loved living as an adult, but everything seemed settled and the pair were chatting about going home. Plus – Virgil had to deal with emotions, and he hated those. He had to contemplate what to do about his emotions when he didn't live with the cause of those emotions almost all hours of the day.

"Yeah, I think we're both ready. But I can wait until Roman comes back..."

Janus took a deep nasal breath and looked down, stroking his temples. "I think I deceived you a little bit with all that – in fact I know I deceived you I –" Janus grumbled again and crossed his arms. "I can't help you back to your dimension."

Virgil's eyes widened but he said nothing, and he was brought back to what was now his reality by an alarm going off on his phone saying: 'get Nathan ready for school'. "OK... I've got to get Nathan to kindergarten."

Janus gave Virgil a sympathetic look. "I'm really sorry for leading you on Virgil."

"It'll be alright. I'll manage this." All Virgil could manage was a small smile and a nod, before leaving with the enthusiastic child to prepare for the rest of his life as a fully transitioned 30-year-old.

On Wednesday lunchtimes Roman oversaw a drama club, which ended up just being an unofficial LGBTQ+ meet-up for the school's queer kids. It was peaceful – the kids kept to themselves and entertained themselves on the stage, a few of them sometimes brought a Switch to do a large competition of Mario-Kart. And while they entertained themselves Roman marked work (which drama teacher had to mark sheets of paper? Roman apparently). It was much more fun to watch the teens play together like children, living their childhood and making memories.

There was a new student joining the group this week too. Wearing a sport jersey and ruffling his dirty blond hair, wearing a mlm gay pin that was gifted to him the week before. He would usually be on the field by now risking brain damage to play American football but this time he was smiling and laughing with his close friends. "Hey, Tom! I double-dare you to Dirty Dancing lift me!" One of his friends shouted across the room, and Thomas followed happily and did his best attempt at a relatively dangerous lift. Roman as a teacher should tell the kids to stop the lift but Roman as a gay man... He wasn't going to stop their fun.

The group silenced a little when they heard Roman's phone go off. Virgil was calling, he didn't do that in mid-day unless there was an emergency. "Ooh, who's calling you Mr Krol?" The students echoed amongst each other with giggling faces. Roman smiled back at them.

"My husband kiddos – can I have some privacy please?" The kids respected that order and carried on laughing and messing around. Teachers technically weren't allowed to be on their phones during the school day so the only ways Roman could get privacy on days like this was to stuff himself in the dark closet in the corner of the room.

It was silent when Roman answered the phone call. During most of Virgil's panic attacks he could hear the heavy breathing but once or twice they were silent. "Is everything alright Virgil?" Roman cautiously asked, leaning against the closet door, and covering his arm over his chest. "Is it you or Nathan you're calling about?"

"Us." Virgil responded quickly, his voice surrounded by anxiety and he spoke quietly. Roman responded in the same quiet way.

"Should I head home? I can get Patton to cover my last classes..." Roman heard a mumble as Virgil must have shook his head. So Roman stayed silent and let Virgil process his words.

Virgil took a deep breath and spoke slowly but clearly though the phone. "Janus lied, he can't get us back home. We're stuck like this." There was silence again, Virgil was obviously more disturbed by this situation while Roman was just silently thinking.

Roman wanted to become a teenager again so that he could come out and explore his sexuality while he was young. Like the Thomas Sanders student was now Roman could hear him laughing and cheering in the background of his thoughts. But by this point, living this life, Roman knew he wanted to end up with Virgil. He wanted this life – teaching and inspiring teens during the day, playing with Nathan in the evenings and cuddling Virgil at night. He just wanted to build up to this dream life. And that dream life would encourage Virgil to reciprocate the feelings if he wanted to. At this point the two men were just friends.

He supposed the build-up to love could happen in adulthood. Then everything will fall into place and Roman could fully live with his true feelings and be in love with Virgil. Well, he already loved Virgil.

"We'll talk about it after my classes Verge. Don't worry too much about it, take deep breaths for me until I'm back." Virgil agreed, a smile changing his voice a little and making Roman smile back. After some more goodbyes and chat about dinner that night Roman hung up the call and went back to controlling the chaotic kids and helping them make memories.
