Summary: Logan finally understands that Virgil and Roman do not remember anything past sophomore year of high school, and in turn has a talk with Patton about the favour the two parents gave.

A little bit of Logicality but there will probably be some more later - but next chapter is going to be a lot of Creativitwins!

Virgil got up relatively early on Saturday. He needed to get a final layer of paint onto the easel, and he preferred to do so in silence. Both Nathan and Roman were fast asleep when Virgil wrapped himself in a dirty black night gown. He put a brush in his arm to keep it out the way before slowly stepping down the stairs, expecting to see Logan asleep too.

But he was surprised to see Logan wide awake with a couple of books open and pens scattered across the coffee table. "Um... Morning Lo." Virgil said sleepily with the only greeting he could think of even though it was just past 6am.

"I'm sorry, I didn't wake you up did I?" Logan whispered quickly, not looking at his friend and instead his work. The scribbles looked frantic and there were blue eyebags under his eyes. Virgil just shook his head, going into the kitchen to make a toasted Crofters for his friend too. When the plate was placed in front of Logan the man tiredly raised his eyebrow and grabbed it. "Sorry, I'm just getting really stressed over this presentation."

"It's alright. I'm sure you'll do great." Logan only shrugged at that, leaning forward to scribble some notes again. Seeing Logan so focused made Virgil wonder about college, that was how they met after all apparently. Virgil didn't think he'd succeed or even attend college – his mother would only help pay the extensive finances if her 'daughter' majored in something other than art. Logan was no doubt an intelligent student. "Hey Lo?" Logan raised his head. "What did I major in college?"

Logan tilted in head and dropped his pen in the table. "Um... I believe it was marketing wasn't it? You definitely did a minor in art." Although Logan sounded unsure what he said did make sense. Seeming Virgil was self-employed and successful he did seem to have some marketing and business knowledge that high school Virgil didn't have. "Why am I getting quizzed on your life?" Logan laughed softly, rolling his eyes, obviously still not believing that Virgil wasn't his adult self.

If Logan would not believe his friends then Roman and Virgil would be stuck in this adult life together. And sure, high school was shit, but Virgil was excited for the independence and freedom of college. He would have loved the freedom of finally being fully away from his mother and instead entering a world where (hopefully) he would be accepted for who he was. He wanted to live through that. "Did I enjoy college Lo?"

"I believe you did, yes. You had your anxious parts as I did but we worked through them together." For the first time Logan didn't seem to argue against the time travel theory, instead he began to answer as if Virgil really didn't know. "You had Roman by your side too – and he really helped when I couldn't."

"When did I start dating Roman then?"

Logan looked confused for a second, looking down and then back at Virgil. "You don't remember anything about that? You usually love telling me stories of your high school romance."

"I've told you before, I can't remember anything."

It only seemed then that everything seemed to fall in place in Logan's mind, his eyes widening as he blinked twice. "You don't remember a thing about Roman?" Logan had a hurt expression all over his face that made Virgil feel uneasy, but the more anxious man nodded anyway. "And he doesn't remember a thing about you?"

Virgil felt it was too awkward to speak, a lump had developed in his throat. And for the first time it seemed Logan was speechless too. "I mean I can't believe it, there must be some kind of neural pathway that's still intact seeming the serotonin levels you outwardly display haven't changed." Logan continued to ramble while Virgil panicked about the words he was saying. "You still seem to show attraction to each other outwardly, even though you're strangers. I wonder if it's just a break in passage between the nervous systems and thought..." Logan uttered, before looking up and straight into Virgil's eyes to say a question that Virgil would dread. "Do you think you're attracted to Roman, Virgil?"

The blushing cheeks on Virgil's face answered that question for Logan, but Virgil didn't want to answer the question directly. Instead he stood and grabbed the notepad and pens he came downstairs with – speaking a lot more nervously than before. "I'll think about it. Now I've got to get some art done." And with that Virgil quickly escaped to his basement, leaving Logan with his theories and all the research resources he could need to look more into his friends' issue.

A few days later Virgil had a living room renovation to paint, so he was outside the house at the same time Roman was teaching classes. The kindergarten was also closed for the afternoon so Logan had to collect Nathan early from school and babysit for a few hours.

Luckily Nathan was a fun kid to hang out with. "I'm gonna take your knight Uncle Logan!" Nathan cheered as he moved the knight piece in a backwards L-shape in order to take one of his own pieces. Logan laughed and helped correct the mistake. He loved teaching Nathan how to play chess – and the kindergartener was surprisingly good at remembering the names of pieces – and Nathan seemed excited to learn everything. Roman always said that enthusiasm to learn was from Virgil, but Logan didn't believe that was the case. The curious look Nathan gave the chess pieces was the same Roman gave as a pre-teen when Logan talked about anything nerdy.

Logan was disturbed from his happy babysitting from a knock on the front door. He went to the door straight away of course, checking his watch on the way even though he knew neither Roman nor Virgil would return from work for another fifteen minutes. But instead of one of his friends coming through the door there was an older man Logan knew well.

"Oh hi, hi Logie! I'm just dropping off some gifts for Virgil and Roman's new kiddo." Patton spoke quietly and walked to the kitchen counter with the two large boxes, both almost overflowing. The teacher kept on spitting many words in quick succession. "I took the afternoon off to go shopping for a new foster kiddo and while I was there I thought I'd get some new stuff! Can you believe those two are going to have another little... Oh is Natey there?"

"I don't believe they told me about that. I guess I'm too out of town to know all the news." Logan strategically blocked the archway from the curious five year old's eyes (and hopefully ears). If Virgil had yet to tell his close friend he was going to be a father of two he definitely hadn't told their little energy ball.

Patton grinned wide and cooperated with hiding the boxes of gifts behind his back. That didn't mean he stopped talking though. "Anyway what's up with your life? Why are you back in town?"

Nathan seemed distracted once Logan turned the television to Paw Patrol, allowing the two adults to talk. "Just staying for a few days due to a delayed conference. And nothing much has happened apart from research and teaching." Patton knew Logan from high school as the teacher often gave extra classes to the private school boys, so knew he and Roman were exes, and he knew Logan was open to romantic relationships. Every time Patton saw Logan the same question was asked.

"No boyfriend still?"

"Oh, don't get me started. Virgil and Roman are trying to get me to date their neighbour." Logan chuckled to himself and expected Patton to chuckle too – even he understood unrealistic requests. But Patton tilted his head.

The teacher spoke gently and carefully, which surprisingly reassured Logan. "You don't know the neighbours do you? Janus and Remus?"

"The only Remus I know is Roman's middle school friend." Patton nodded with a look of certainty, and Logan's eyes widened. Logan hadn't had the blessing of meeting the two people next door during his visits but he knew Remus Sharsack well. Maybe too well. "Oh no – Is Remus Sharsack their neighbour?"

"Yep, is there a reason why you don't want to try a date with Remus Sharsack?" Now Patton was giving Logan the look every teacher and parent knew well – the look that they could read the mind of the person opposite them. And Logan hated having his mind read.

There was definitely no reason to not have a date with Remus Sharsack. It was in fact very much the inverse. "Not particularly actually – now I have promised to vacuum the place for Roman and Virgil so I should stop chatting." Patton took his leave at that and left Logan with his thoughts and own memories of middle school.
