My eyelids fluttered open. As I moved, I hissed from the pain. Alicia came into the room and handed me two pain meds and a glass of water. I prefer a beer, but water will suffice. I gulped the pills and took a swig of the water, then set the glass down on the end table.

Alicia fidgeted and shifted in her spot. Her nervousness didn't go unnoticed by me.

"You want to ask, don't you?" My voice was soft and deep.

"I know you don't discuss your lifestyle, but last night scared the shit out of me." Alicia furrowed her brows and tried not to cry.

I patted the side of the bed. "Come here."

Alicia hesitated until I patted the bed again. She sighed and sat down next to me, careful not to touch me.

"What do you want to know?"

"Is it always this violent?"

"It depends on the circumstance, but yes, it is."

"Don't you ever worry about dying?"

"Hand me my jacket." I pointed at my leather flung over a chair.

Alicia got up, grabbed my jacket, and handed it to me. I reached into the inside pocket and grabbed my smokes and lighter. After blazing one, I tossed the jacket to the floor.

"No." I took a drag from my smoke, inhaled, and let the smoke expel.

"Why not?"  Alicia knitted her brows.

I pushed myself up with her help and pulled another hit from my smoke. "Because death doesn't bother me. I understood death was a possibility when Blake imitated me into his club. You don't leave unless it's in a body bag."

"I can't even imagine." Alicia shook her head.

"Most people romanticize our lifestyle, thinking it's exciting and sexy. It's not. It's dirty, nasty, and destructive. Club members have no issue ending a life and using women."

I wanted Alicia to understand my lifestyle without delving too deep into the ins and outs. It's still a club, and as a member, you don't discuss the business of it.

Alicia struggled with what I told her. I could see it on her face even if she tried to hide it.

"Last night terrified me. It made me realize that I could lose you."

I dropped my smoke into the glass of water, leaned forward, and grabbed her hand. "If I can prevent it, you won't lose me. I can't promise you, but I can try to prevent it."

Alicia nodded her head. I pulled her to me and captured her lips with mine. A few minutes later, my phone rang. Alicia grabbed it and handed it to me.

"Yeah?"

Well, you're alive.

I rolled my eyes.

Richard chuckled. Where are you?

"I'm getting medical attention."

Sure you are.

"Is there a reason for your call?" My irritation was growing with Richard.

Blake is nursing his wounds and his ego.

"Blake is lucky that he's still breathing."

He lost a lot of club members last night, which means he'll lay low until he adds some more.

"It'll give me time to heal."

I had a feeling you would be out of commission for a while.
