Jax

I sat at the bar, drinking my beer and pulling a drag from my smoke, when Richard approached me.

"Jax."

I glanced at Richard and returned to my beer. "What?"

"Gunner and Dax found Alicia."

I gave Richard a sideways glance as I took a swig of my beer. "When are they returning?"

Richard didn't say anything.

I set my beer down and swiveled on my barstool. "Where are they?"

"They're in Fairbanks. Gunner gave me the address."

I grabbed my smokes, lighter, and leather jacket, left the bar, and climbed onto my bike. Richard followed suit and rode alongside me as we headed to Fairbanks.

The ride took a few hours until we pulled into a driveway to find Gunner, Dax, Andre, and Arlo waiting in a driveway in front of a tiny house. We dropped our kickstands, climbed off our bikes, and grabbed our guns from our saddlebags.

Richard trailed me as I walked toward the house. Gunner and Dax stood on one side of the driveway as Andre and Arlo stood on the other side next to their bikes.

I held my gun to my side as I opened the screen door and pushed open the front door. I halted in my tracks when I saw Alicia lying face down on the floor with blood underneath her.

We put our guns away as I walked over to her, crouched next to her, and moved her hair from her face. I turned my head and closed my eyes as rage engulfed me. My breathing increased as I squeezed my eyes shut.

Blake was a dead man.

I opened my eyes and went to lift Alicia when a thumping caught our attention. I stood as Richard, and I glanced at us. We pulled our guys and crept toward the noise. I pushed the bedroom door open with the barrel of my gun.

We heard a bumping in a lower cabinet. Richard and I glanced at each other.

"I doubt Blake is hiding in a small cabinet," Richard whispered.

We put our guns away. I moved to the cabinet, kneeled next to it, and opened the door as my brows furrowed. A little girl with dark browns, light brown curls, and chubby cheeks stared at me with wide eyes. She was wearing a pair of noise-canceling headphones.

I reached into the cabinet, pulled her out, and removed the headphones as she stared at me. As I held her in my arms, I noticed a folded piece of paper in her hand. "Can I have that?" I pointed at the form.

The little girl held out her chubby hand to me. I took the paper from her, stood up with her, and opened it. After reading the contents, my jaw clenched.

"What did she have?" Richard asked.

I handed the piece of paper to Richard.

He took it from me and looked at it, then at me. "Are you fucking kidding me?"

I shot Richard a look as he noticed Elise staring at him. Richard folded the paper and handed it to me. I shoved it into my back pocket.

"What do you want to do?"

"I don't want Elise to see Alicia like this. She doesn't need to have her mother's body haunting her."

Richard nodded and took Elise from me. He shielded Elise's eyesight as he walked past Alicia through the house. I walked out to the living room, scooped up Alicia, and carried her outside. Her blood soaked my clothes as her arm dangled to the side.
