Jax

Before heading back to the bar, I stopped at a store. I found the coffeemakers and chose a simple one. I didn't understand why people would complicate coffee. You press the damn button and brew coffee.

I grabbed filters and coffee, along with a mug, then stood in line. Random people stared at me as I set the items on the belt. The cashier rang up my order and gave me the total. I handed her a Benjamin. She passed me change. I grabbed the bags and strolled out to my bike. After loading the storage container, I headed to the bar.

I helped Gertie and spent time with her. Another caregiver arrived to relieve me. I packed up my bag and headed home to take a hot bath.

After arriving home, I set my bag down and hung my keys on a hook. I trekked to the bathroom, drew a bath, stripped down, and climbed in. My eyelids closed as I laid back in the tub. Thoughts swirled my mind.

My phone rang. I sat up, dried my hands, and answered it. "Hello?"

Where are you?

"Jax?"

Your car is here, but no one is answering the door.

I looked at my phone with an unknown number on the screen. "How did you get my phone number?"

I programmed your number when you took a shower.

"Do you always go through people's stuff?"

Only when it's my woman.

I couldn't help but smile. "The door is unlocked."

You should lock your door.

"I should, but my man will protect me."

Jax chuckled.

"Give me a few minutes." I ended the call, got out of the tub, dried off, and dressed in a top and leggings. I came out of the bathroom to find Jax setting up a coffeemaker. "You bought a coffeemaker?"

"And coffee, coffee filters, and a mug for myself."

My brows lifted.

Jax finished. "You add water, coffee grounds, and push this button on the side. Simple."

"Why did you buy me a coffeemaker?"

"Because it's better than that shit you call coffee," Jax smirked.

I chuckled and shook my head.

"I brought dinner."

I slid onto a stool as Jax joined me. He pulled styrofoam containers out of the bag. I flipped open the lid and started eating.

"Thank you."

"No problem."

We ate our dinner and talked.

"How was your day?"

"It was okay. Gertie tried to operate a remote and had difficulty. So, I taped it to simplify it for her."

Jax snickered.

"Did you take care of your business?"

"Yeah." Jax grabbed his drink and sipped it.

"Okay, you don't discuss your business for reasons, but it would help if I knew a little bit of what you do."

Jax glanced at me as he chewed. "I eliminate rival club members or anyone who reneges on a deal."
