Jax

After that day, Alicia didn't ask any more questions. It wouldn't matter because I wouldn't answer them if she did. She didn't need to get mixed up with my business.

She tended to my wounds, ensuring they were clean and didn't get infected. I hissed each time she had to cleanse them.

"Here." Alicia handed me a pair of rolled socks.

I took them from her and looked at her. "What do you want me to do with these?"

"Bite down on them."

"Why?"

"So, I can clean your wounds, and you don't hiss like a big baby."

"I'm not chomping on a pair of socks."

"Would you like a bone?"

"Then I suggest that you use the socks."

I narrowed my eyes at Alicia and chomped down on the socks. She quickly removed the gauze pads, cleaned the wounds, and placed fresh gauze pads over them. When she finished, she cleaned up the mess and discarded the used pads.

"Now, that wasn't so bad, was it?"

"You're lucky that I love you. If it were anyone else, I would knock their ass out."

Alicia tilted her head and rolled her eyes. "I have no doubt."

A smirk grew on my lips. I reached for Alicia, dragged her to me, and pulled her head down to me so that I could capture her lips. Our kiss became heated, but Alicia stopped me.

"You're in no shape to get physical."

"It would make me feel better."

"I refuse to break your stitches because you're horny."

A low chuckle formed in my chest. I put my hands up and pushed myself back onto the bed. Alicia placed pillows behind my back and left the room. My phone beeped with messages. I checked them and responded with orders for Arlo and Andre. Richard kept me abreast with club business. Dax was training as an enforcer but would need my final approval before taking on the role. It's how Richard and I kept the club running smoothly.

I had to admit that with Jax wounded, I worried less when he left. I never knew what shape he would return to me. I didn't even want to imagine losing him.

I busied myself with preparing food for Jax. I grabbed pans and placed them on the stove, then searched the fridge for food to prepare. I grabbed whatever I could, closed the fridge door, and jumped in my spot.

Jax stood in front of me and gazed at me.

"What are you doing out of bed?"

"I got lonely."

I arched my brow. "I'm ten feet from you. How can you be lonely?"

"You were ten feet from me."

My left eye twitched as Jax snickered. I wanted to scold him for being out of bed, but I found out it wouldn't matter. Jax would disobey my instructions.

"You make a lousy patient." I pointed a head of lettuce at him.

"My nurse would help me feel better."

"What?"

Jax moved closer to me as my back hit the fridge. He pressed his body against me, and I could feel the hardness in his jeans.

"I have this ache that needs a cure."

My breathing hitched. Jax leaned down and grazed my neck with his lips. His tongue slipped past his lips as he suckled my skin. A small groan escaped my lips. Jax places his right hand on my waist and brings me closer than we already are. He runs his left hand behind my head, weaving his fingers into my hair as he brings my lips to his. The kiss is hungry and passionate, and I can't resist his lips.

Then I snap out of my haze-induced trance and maneuver away from him. Jax drops his hands and looks at me.

"You won't make me fall for your sexy charms. If you want my company, then you can sit down on a chair."

"I thought I was being stealthy."

"You thought wrong. Now, sit!"

Jax cocked his head and raised a brow.

"Please."

Jax sighed. "Since you ask so nicely." Jax dragged a chair to the kitchen, sat down, and crossed his arms. "Happy now?"

"Yes, because now I know you can follow directions, unlike with your care."

Jax rolled his eyes.

I got work, chopping lettuce and vegetables for a salad.  I grabbed a meat tenderizer and pounded chicken breast before tossing them into a hot pan. While the chicken cooked, I cut up fruit.

"I want a burger."

I glanced over my shoulder at Jax. "You need nutrients and protein."

"A burger has both."

"And an excessive amount of fat."

"Do I look like I care?"

I stopped and looked at Jax. "Are you always this stubborn when you get injured?"

"Only when I don't get laid."

My brows raised.

"You asked." He shrugged.

"Has anyone told you that you have no filter?"

"No, because they're too busy with my fist or my dick in their mouth."

I stared at Jax with my mouth agape.  I didn't know what to add to that and returned to cooking.

I couldn't help but smirk, watching Alicia squirm. Most bitches run their mouths until I shove my dick into it to shut them up. Alicia wasn't a bitch but curious.

I wasn't used to having someone take care of me except for my mom. After what my old man did, the roles reversed with me taking care of my mom. When you rely on yourself for so long, you don't know how to handle someone wanting to take care of you. I know I didn't.

"Do you always take care of people?"

Alicia stopped and turned her head. "What?"

"Do you always take care of people?"

"I enjoy taking care of people. It's why I studied to become a nurse."

"You're a nurse?"

"I was until I left." Alicia turned back to the food.

"Why did you leave?"

"It's a long, complicated story."

"I have time. Shit, it's not like I can move anywhere. Someone won't let me."

Alicia glanced at me as I arched a brow. She sighed. "Okay. My father is someone you disobey."

"Who's your father?"

"Maxwell Keaton."

I sat forward. Alicia got my attention when she mentioned Maxwell's name.

"I met this guy who was a biker. It didn't sit well with my father, so I left. I thought I made the right decision until my ex used me as a punching bag."

"Who's your ex?"

"His name was Brett. I never knew his last name, but his older brother runs a club."

I sat back in my chair and rubbed my chin with my palm. Richard did business with Alicia's old man. When Maxwell wanted the competition eliminated, he contacted Richard. Richard would send me to do the dirty work. But Brett was an issue because of Blake. I have a target on my back because of delivering Brett's body to Blake. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that Alicia has a bigger one.

"What?" Alicia's question broke me from my thoughts.

"Nothing."

Alicia knitted her brows.

"When's chow?"

A smile formed upon Alicia's lips. I needed to wait until she left before I contacted Richard. The last thing I needed is put Alicia in danger.
