When I saw just how bad it hurt her as I said that, I found myself wishing I never had.

I don't blame her for not believing. Heck, she could've called me a liar and I would've understood. She saw Fredrick as the perfect father.

That coward didn't even show up at Vellara when he was the one that asked me to meet him alone.

I never knew his full name was Fredrick Kayne Iglesias. When I found out, I started researching Astraea's past out of curiosity. Turns out, Fredrick had a daughter. A daughter I had never heard of.

That being my Iris.

It was a bullet to the heart when I found out that he was the father of the only person I've ever wanted to hold.

I know that it killed her. I saw the look on her face when she connected the dots, and I wished I could take it all back the moment it left my mouth.

"Zane was right" Roxy buries her face in her hands as her leg nervously taps against the hard floor.
"When am I not?"

"Fredrick is very much alive" Bianca, who seems to be concentrated on the file in her hand, says. Felix gets up and throws his hands in the air. He rests them on his hips and stares at me.

"How did you know that he was alive?" He asks, pointing a finger in my direction.
"He called me"

The entire team seems to be stunned once I say that. Diesel opens his mouth to speak, but I hold up a hand to cut him off.
"I tracked the phone calls and they led to old, abandoned buildings each time. There was no point in telling this to you"

Bianca coughs "Yes, there was. We would've believed you sooner if you had just said that"

I raise a brow.
"So, you didn't believe me when I said that?"

That makes her quiet down. The atmosphere in the room feels tense and heavy. Finally, Roxy speaks.

"What do we do now?"

"How did you find out that he was alive?" I ask them, crossing my legs. Felix shrugs.
"Royce reported seeing him in the rave. Here's the photo he took" he slides the picture across the table. His face makes my blood boil.

"Can I see it?" Astraea asks quietly from the corner of the room. She hasn't spoken much to anyone since finding out about this. It's not her fault.

She walks over and I hand her the photo. When she looks at it, I almost stand up to catch her. But she doesn't fall. She holds still, looking apathetically at his face.

She hands it back. It worries me.

"Iris, are you okay?" I gently rub her hand with my thumb. She nods.

"That man was never my father"

I don't miss the way her eyes slightly glint under the dimly lit room. She goes back to her former place.
