"He- WHAT?" I shout so loudly anyone outside the car could've heard it. Felix facepalms.
"He thinks you're cheating on him! Fuck, I knew this was a terrible idea!"

He was awake when I snuck out. He was awake but didn't ask me where I was going. A part of me feels so bad that I wanna rush into his arms at his very moment, the other part is so fucking amused that I want to laugh at his face.

"We're going to have to change the timing of the training sessions" He looks both sides before turning the car towards Hades. I bite my nails.
"What do you think we should tell him?" I ask, worried.

I know that man. I know him by heart and I know that he has a habit of overthinking things. He'll probably be asking himself where we went so wrong. Then, he'll blame himself and decide that he's not worth loving. That motherfucker.

"I don't know! Just make something up. Tell him that you were with me"
"Doing what? I went out to see you in the middle of the night. Why?" I shake my head at him. He sighs.
"I don't fuckin' know! Tell him that Rina and I got into an argument and you had to be there to sort it"

"You want me to lie to his fucking face?" I slam my hands against the dashboard. He winces.
"Don't fucking hurt her"

"I hate you so much" I mumble as we deboard and enter the restaurant. My heart beats a million times faster when I notice him near the far end, in a conversation with Royce.

We walk over and Felix pushes me towards him, making me stumble. I whip my head around and hold up my middle finger.

"Astraea?" My spine straightens when I hear his voice in front of me. I stand at my full height and tuck my hands in my pockets, mustering my bravest smile.

"Hi"
"Hi?"

"So, you know how- um" I chuckle awkwardly, looking around the place. Royce raises an eyebrow.
"I suppose I should head out" Before leaving, he pinches my arm. I whip around and punch his shoulder, then look back at Zane awkwardly.

"So, as I was saying..." I smile "There seems to have been a..uh, misunderstanding" He raises a brow and grabs my waist, pulling me towards him.

"A misunderstanding?" He questions. I nod, swallowing.
"You know how I snuck out in the middle of the night?" I bite my lip. He hmms.
"I wasn't actually cheating on you. I would never do that. I was with Felix"

He chuckles and leans over to plant a kiss on my forehead.
"It's alright, my love. I trust you" I lean back, looking at him with a what-the-actual-fuck look on my face.

"You don't wanna know why?" I question. He shakes his head.
"No"
"But..why?"
"Cuz I trust you"

I blink at him for a while before it sets in. One of his hands reaches over and brushes against mine.
"Just...tell me next time, okay? I got worried" He speaks gently. I nod instantly and grin.
"Okay!"

"Zane, a moment" Bianca calls from near the stairs. He nods.
"I'll see you later" He leans down to kiss me.
"Take care of yourself" I mumble on his soft lips.

The silence of the room seems so loud when he leaves. Not having much of a choice anyway, I shrug and leave the restaurant. Felix is nowhere to be seen, so it seems like I'll have to make alternatives. Lucky for me, my phone dings almost instantly.

Callum: Hey. You free?

Me: Was hoping you'd text me

I smile as I text him my location. It takes a few long minutes before he reaches Hades. I run to the car.

"Hey!" I jump into the passenger's seat and we drive off to somewhere. "So, Icee stop, I suppose?" He smiles, the corners of his eyes crinkling. I laugh, then nod my head.
"You bet"

We reach my favourite Icee shop and I run inside to grab a drink. As I'm waiting for my order, I accidentally bump into someone who's walking backwards, admiring the painting on the wall.

"Oh, I'm sorry I didn't-" I freeze when I look at her.

Ria stares at me for a few long moments and blinks. I awkwardly shift from one foot to the other.
"Hi! It's been...long"

Without saying anything, she rushes into my arms, embracing me tightly.
"I missed you, too" I softly whisper in her ear. She doesn't say anything for a few seconds.

"When are you coming home?" She asks. I run a hand down the hair cascaded on her back and smile.
"When mom wants to see my face again".

She raises her head and steps back.
"Trea, mom hasn't been the same since you left. She doesn't argue with me, she doesn't even joke around. She comes home from work and then sits down on the couch. She doesn't move for the next few hours, just staring at the old magazine in her hands"

My heart aches when I hear about mom's condition. All I really want to do is go home to her. Apologize. Fucking beg if I have to. I miss her.

"Do you think I'll be welcomed home?" I ask unsurely as the order arrives. I pick up both Icees and turn to Ria. She nods.
"You're her daughter. Of course. She misses you so much. Seeing her like that kills me"

I look down at the drinks for a second, then back up at her and nod.
"I'll try to talk to her"
"Thank you" We hug one last time before I leave the shop and walk to the car.

I take out my phone once I reach outside.

Me: Mom, can we talk? Please?

Fear engulfs me and I quickly tuck the phone back into my pocket. I step into the car and hand Cal an Icee.

"What took you so long?" He smiles. He doesn't know about this. He thinks mama and I are on good terms. I wish.
"Oh, nothing. Just...an old friend from high school" I smile.

We spend the rest of the day in peace. We visit a library, then, he takes me to his favourite restaurant. We're walking out of the building, laughing, when my phone rings in my hand.

"Hey, what's up?" I say once I pick up the phone. Felix breathes heavily before speaking.
"I'll text you the location. Meet me there in ten minutes"

His sounds...panicked. I turn to Cal.
"Hey, I have to leave. I'll see you tomorrow?" I smile. He looks at me for a few moments before nodding. I smile awkwardly before turning to leave. Before I can, though, he grips my wrist and yanks me towards me.

I gasp when our faces slam against each other.
"Are you-" He gently cups my face with his hands, looking into my eyes.

"C-Cal, are you okay? What's up?" I blink at him. He licks his lips. He doesn't reply, instead, he leans over and presses his lips to mine.

I don't have the chance to protest, because before I can even lift a finger, he's pushed away from me and slammed against the brick wall behind, a hand tightly wrapped around his neck.

Oh, fuck.

A/N

Someone asked me what kind of ending the book would have, and I'm happy to tell you that I don't know. I mean, I have two alternate endings in mind, but one of them is more appealing than the other.

Let me know what y'all think.

Anyway, be sure to vote, comment and tell me what you think!
