"Hold on, I'll be right back"
Olivia tells Spencer as she rushes out after her friend. She pushed the door open, looking around the lot. Nina was walking quickly away from the bar, shaking her head. Olivia's known this woman half of her life and she rarely avoids a fight. She's the type to stand toe to toe until her voice is heard. Nina runs only when she's in pain.
"Nina!" Olivia yelled. Nina halted, turning slowly, shooting her a look mixed between sadness, but above all, anger. Anger. Rather than waiting, she took off moving even faster.
"Nina! Stop!" Olivia rushed toward her, but Nina kept going.
"Damn it! Quit walking away from me!" Nina spun around, glaring her way.
"You've got to be kiddin me. You're gonna tell me to stop? Why don't you stop!"
There's the girl she knew.
"Don't you dare." Olivia stood, ready to defend herself.
"You have no idea what I've been through, and you don't get to judge me"
"Spencer? Spencer is who you're seeing?" The anger slipped through the cracks, but Olivia felt the hurt mixed in her voice. Nina saw everything. Every horrific thing that she endured, and all the nights Olivia spent sobbing in her arms.
"Really Liv? After everything? Spencer fucking James? I mean, why don't you go back in time and be a damn kid again. Oh, well, you kind of are. So, really?"
I don't know what to say. There's so much that is messed up about this scenario, and I don't even know which part to avoid. I'm not wrong though. This isn't seventeen years ago when I was a kid. Were adults now. We've taken our time, talked, worked through any past issues. This isn't just some fling. I love him.
"Yes. Really," Olivia says with care.
"Were not the same people, Nina"
"No?" She laughed sarcastically.
"He's not the same guy who left you when you needed him the most? Or have you forgotten? Are you not the same woman who married my brother? Because that girl wouldn't go back to him"
Olivia was trying to be careful, but her wanting to bring Jadyn into this didn't make that any easier. She couldn't allow her to use him as a weapon. Her memory seemed to be a little off about who hurt her the most.
"Your brother? The one who left me with over two hundred thousand dollars in debt before killing himself? The one who's responsible for the reason I'm back in Dallas? That one?" Olivia asked her with disdain.
"The one who left his twin boys without a father? His wife without her husband? I really don't wanna go there with you but if you want to take it there, we can. Let's not do this Ni" She huffed, swiping a tear.
"I can't believe you. You made me feel like you were miserable down here" Nina started to pace.
"I thought my poor sister and nephews were stuck in Texas, hating life. I come here to find you with your tongue down your ex's throat. The guy who, according to you, fucked your entire life"
"Don't do that"
Her whole body tensed. Olivia saw the struggle inside of her.
"I'm so angry right now, but it's not even about him. You lied to me, Olivia! Me! Your best friend. The one who's been there every step of the way. How could you do that to me?"
This is where her own anguish lies. Nina hated that she didn't give her the option to hear it from her. Olivia was so afraid of what she would say. Olivia couldn't take her disapproval.
