"You cold?" Spencer asked her while she climbed in his vehicle. She's shaking, and it had nothing to do with being cold. Her body is pressed against the door, trying to keep as much distance between them as possible.
"I'm good"
The drive wasn't long, but each second felt like an hour to her. She looked around smiling.
"Wow, you're kidding me" She laughs as her fingers grazed the sticker on his dashboard. When Spencer was playing a game in Houston, Olivia wanted to give him something that would make him remember and think of her. It had only been two nights, but they were young, and dumb. The sticker read: Love your one and only, cowgirl. She stuck it on his dash and prayed he wouldn't get pissed about it later. Before leaving, he went to her house, took her in his arms, and kissed her until she couldn't breathe. Never said a word to her. He just got back in his truck, winked her way, and drove off. He always did things like that when they were together. He'd tell her it stemmed from, the need to feel something real.
"I told myself I wouldn't take it off, ever, at first" Spencer says with warmth ringing from his voice.
"Eventually, it had been there so long, I couldn't get it to come off"
"My bad for permanently defacing your truck. I didn't think it would still run after so long"
The roar of his engine vibrates through the comfortable silence. Olivia remembers how loud it was, but she swore she never felt it like that. Spencer cleared his throat.
"I doubt it'll ever give out, it's tough as nails" He put the truck in drive heading down the small road toward his house.
"This has to look really bad" Olivia says, squinting. Spencer drives slowly as rain pelts the truck harder than before. She can barely see anything out from the windshield. He pulled over to the side of the road.
"I can't see a thing, I'm going to wait until things clear up a little" Mother nature can be a cold-hearted bitch. Doesn't she know how much Olivia doesn't want to be in this truck? Could she get a break? Guess not. Nah. She was convinced that it was supposed to be as awkward and uncomfortable as humanly possible. Thunder boomed behind them, causing Olivia to jump. Perfect. The storm from hell was near.
"So?" Olivia says after a minute of silence.
"You could never handle the quiet, or a room of pure silence" Spencer smirks as she fought the urge to punch him in the leg.
"Yes, I could!" No, I couldn't. He's right, again.
"Negative. You always needed music or conversation. I'm pleased to know, that some things haven't changed with you"
"Things have changed, I've changed"
So much has changed since he left her. Not only just in her life, but who she was. Loving someone the way she loved him changed her on the inside. But losing her husband took a part of her heart and shattered it beyond repair.
"We both are. Liv." He was right, he wasn't the same boy she remembers.
"Since were sitting for a while, why don't you tell me how your different"
"Or not. We don't have to talk to each other" She crossed her arms averting her eyes out the window. He chuckles.
"Maybe not, but who knows how long it'll be before it stops raining"
She didn't want to let her guard down with him, even though it would be so easy to let go and be his friend. At the same time, she wasn't mentally prepared to be trapped in a car with him like this. She continued to gaze out the window, into the road, trying to find a break in the downpour of the fallen water.
