-Chapter eighty seven; Do Not Send Us Astray-———
DARYL
WHEN DARYL WOKE UP THE NEXT
day, the sun hadn't even risen over the horizon yet, his and Taylor's room in complete darkness.Sighing, he rolled onto his side, looking over at a sleeping Taylor who had Carl's note clutched in one hand and her tears stained with dry tears.
He quietly slipped out of bed, walking carefully over the floorboards and to the window where he pulled back the curtains, letting the rays of the setting moon illuminate the bedroom.
Turning back to Taylor, he walked over to her, slipping Carl's note out of her hand and sat in on the nightstand before tucking a few loose strands of her hair behind her ear as he pulled the covers over her and left a light kiss on her forehead.
He then walked over to the dresser, quietly changing into a fresh flannel and jeans before slipping on his angel win veet and sat the edge of the bed to put on his socks and shoes.
He heard the bed creak followed by Taylor's groggy voice, "Where are you going? It's not even dawn yet...".
"Out. The Saviors are on their way, we gotta get ready for 'em." He replied, tying the laces to his boots.
"Oh..." She mumbled, "And me?".
"Yer stayin' here. Siddiq said ya' need ta' stay in bed all day today fer yer leg ta' really heal. Jordyn an' Lee'll keep checking in on you." He explained, standing up and grabbing his crossbow from the armchair.
"When will you be back?" She asked.
He shrugged, "Dunno. Sometime tonight. Don' worry, I'll be careful.".
She smiled, "I know you will. That's why you've made it this far. That, and I'm your goodluck charm.".
He chuckled, "That ya' are. Now get some rest Babygirl, the more ya' get, higher the chance you'll be back on yer feet tomorrow.".
Nodding, she laid back down and pulled the covers over her, drifting off back to sleep as Daryl slipped out of their room.
He'd fight for Taylor's future...
He'd fight for Judith's future...
He'd fight for all of their futures...
