DAY ONE
Bridgette's on break, and tonight, as the snow falls, we're having a Christmas party at our house, primarily to celebrate the finalization of our adoption of Bridgette, and we invited Ma and Pa, my in-laws, the older members of the Titans, and the whole League. We also invited Mom, Aunt Allura, and Uncle Zor, and they gladly accepted.
Over the course of the last month, we told the three of them about the situation with Rao and Jesus, and why Kara, Karen, Connor, and I converted to Christianity. They, of course, were shocked, and they were appalled that Raoism is nothing but a crock. So, just to spite Rao, they also converted to Christianity.
Lois' belly has now grown to a point that if it wasn't before, when she wears tight clothing, it's obvious now that she's pregnant. And the bigger her belly grows, the happier I get, because she's that much closer to her tenth month. See, I've come to learn that women don't carry children for nine months, but for ten. The developmental term is nine months, and the delivery month is, in fact, the tenth. Interesting stuff.
And going back to the topic of Bridgette, would you believe that Bridgette's unbelievably entitled mother tried to contest our adopting her daughter, and sued us for custody of her daughter? Well, she did. We, of course, won, thanks to some incredible legal counsel from Augustus Freeman, the Icon, another recent addition to the League, a stellar testimony from Bridgette, and the fact that the woman, whose name we learned is Theresa Olivieri, is still facing prison time for the scene she caused at Walmart and the assaults on both Lois (whom she slapped without any prior provacation), and the police officer (whom she spat on).
Now that Mom, Aunt Allura, and Uncle Zor are at least somewhat acclimated to Earth culture, I'm gonna see what they wanna do in terms of career options, and whatnot. So I walk over to the three of them and ask, "So, now that you guys are at least a little used to Earth, what are you gonna do?"
"What do you mean, sweetheart?" asks Mom.
"Since you're gonna be staying on Earth for a while," I respond, "what are you guys thinking in terms of an occupation? You know, a career? A job?"
"I have been giving this some thought, and I believe I want to dive into archaeology. No pun intended. You know what cultural history means to me, and it would be fascinating, I think, to learn about ancient Earth civilizations and cultures, and to see how they have influenced contemporary Earth societies."
"Well, you are one of the best historians Krypton has ever produced, and if anyone's gonna excel in that area, that field of study, I know it's gonna be you, Mom. Besides, archaeological excavations could make you a lot of money, 'specially if you discover something that no one else has ever seen, before."
"That means a lot to me, unah. Thank you, Kal," says Mom.
"Nothin' doin', Mom," I reply. "I'm not sayin' anything that isn't true. What about you, Aunt Allura? What are your plans for the conceivable future?"
"I think I am going to get back into my pathology research," says my aunt. "I have some theories that I need a chance to check. One of which is a way to prolong human life."
"Well, from what I've read about you in the Kryptonian archives, before the planet's explosion, you were making some unbelievable breakthroughs in curing and preventing disease."
"Oh, stop," says my chocolate-skinned aunt, who's visibly turning a few shades redder.
"I'm serious," I defend. "And extended life is something that humans have been trying to achieve for decades. You make an irrefutable breakthrough in that, and that's something that will have you set for life. It could also be an inheritance for Kara and Karen, if, God forbid, something should happen to you."
