Part Seventeen: Protect You With My Life

"This is madness! If Klaus wants to have something, he will! You cannot protect her forever" Damon poured his liquor, usually cruel and unfazed by whatever was going on around him. Stefan looked at his brother with anger, something they both shared with Caroline. "And, what is your better idea?"

"What about handing her over? And all the drama we have been going through will be over"

"Are you even hearing yourself? You may not care but she is our best friend!" Caroline raised her voice as she stood up with anger, walking to Damon threateningly. Damon scoffed and stood up as well, walking to Caroline angrily. The blonde vampire hit his chest with her hand. "Your feelings and your loyalty for her might be gone, but I want to believe that even you would not want to kill two innocent babies"

"As if it is something he hadn't done before" Stefan murmured under his breath and no one bothered to ask what he meant or what happened. They just sat back down, thinking what to do about the new threat coming to their way again.

Elena, in another room, was laying down with her eyes open, and a blank expression on her face. Kai was just sitting next to the bed and observing her expression. "Did you mean it?"Kai frowned and looked at Elena with confusion. "I meant what?"

"That you don't love me, that you are just messing with my head?" Kai looked down and did not say anything. He could not say that he did not mean it, something in him was almost like forbidding him to say so. Elena just nodded her head, not letting her tears to fall. "I understand. I am not expecting you to be with me just because of the babies, you don't have to have any kinds of involvements with them if you don't want to"

Kai raised his head and looked at Elena blankly, but he was sure that he looked miserable. And he did, Elena knew he felt miserable. "I didn't mean it" Elena did not say anything, and he did not talk as well for a few seconds. "I care about you, for the first time I care about someone who is not me. And it confuses me-"

"Your words hurt me, and when you found me, for a second i doubted you that if you would hurt me or not" Kai shook his head like a guilty kid. "I wouldn't, Elena, understand me"

"Understand what?"

"That I love you! That I would actually die and kill for you! And believe me when I say that this is the first time I am feeling whatever I am feeling right now. You loved me and accepted me, no one ever accepted me until you. You treated me like I am a bundle of light" He let out a little, sad chuckle as Elena tilted her head and closed her eyes with sadness. "Because there is no need to see the light in you, you are the light itself"

Elena sighed and patted on the bed, a sign for him to sit down next to her. "I love you" Kai smiled and looked right into her eyes, as if he was trying process the information he had just heard. "I love you too"

Elena giggled soundlessly. "What do you think they will be, the genders?" Kai pursed his lips and smiled awkwardly, showing his nervousness. "A girl and a boy maybe?" Elena laughed and nodded her head positively. "That's also what i think, maybe you can cast a spell and learn it some other time. What do you say?" He nodded his head, his lips not missing his smile, not even for a second. "I will always protect you Elena"

"I know, I will always protect you too" She took a pause, making it visible to Kai before continuing her harder part to utter. "And I will always be there for you, I will never leave you again. Not even when you do horrible things I probably will never approve, because I love you. Because I realized that you would actually burn the damn city down if you could not save us"

"I would" He stated proudly, but not cockily. He looked at her like she was his everything, and yes, she was his everything. Everything about her, from her smile to the children she was carrying, was everything to him. Kai Parker never thought that he could fall in love with someone that flawed yet this flawless. Or he never thought that he would fall in love at all.

However, there was this girl then. She was the beauty, the grace, maybe fragile as a daisy but knew how to survive through the wind and storm and winter. And Kai Parker was proud of himself for this once, for once, he was feeling like what he was doing was more than something he had ever accomplished.

Everyday was going to be better, going to be greater, going to be brighter with her by his side. All he needed, all he needed to breath was her, and therefore she was his breath and living. It did not only depend on her, but also she was the life itself. Without her, he could not exist, he just could not. Even with the possibility of losing her was enough drive him crazy. The horror he felt, nothing he had ever felt was strong as his fear when he realized Elena was missing, other than his love for that one specific girl. "What would I do without you?"

Elena smiled brightly and connected their foreheads, lovingly much to make him smile. "I don't think it's something you need to worry about. I will never leave you" And that was exactly what he wanted to hear from her well shaped lips right before he kissed her.
