Part Twenty Four: Broke Down Crying

Kai opened his eyes after two weeks, and the only thing he remembered was healing Elena after she cut her throat open. He was not sure why she was doing such thing, but he was able to recall the unbelievable amount of fear as she did so.

He frowned when he felt the chains around his wrists. Why would they cage him and where was Elena? All he remembered was falling unconscious in their car, did she know he was alright?

A blonde woman he barely remembered walked in and looked at him with blankness in her face. "Freya, right? Where is Elena, does she know I am alright?"

"Cut the crap, Lucien!" He frowned when the brunette he had never seen before yelled at him. "Excuse me, who?"

"That dumb play doesn't suit you. We-"

"Hayley, please" Kai narrowed his eyes when he saw Elijah, he was able to remember him well. "Oh, the suit man! Okay, now tell me where is Elena"

Elijah frowned and took a careful look at Kai, that carefully that Kai might assume he was flirting with him. "Bring Elena here"

"Elijah-"

"I believe this is really him, she would be able to understand. Just bring her" Kai was confused with his words but still stayed silent with the hope of seeing Elena.

She walked in, her bump was more visible but her face or the other parts of her body looked just as same. He sighed with relief, she was here and safe and most importantly; alive. "Elena"

"Is he?" She trailed down, looking at the girl Elijah called Hayley. She shrugged and looked at Elijah. "Elijah thinks he is back to himself" Elena nodded and walked to him, crouching down to his level and eventually sitting down in front of him. "Kai is that really you?"

"Why would not it be? Elena what is going on here?" Elena took a deep yet shaky breath before holding his hand slowly. Kai squeezed her hand back, then slowly caressing her soft hands. "Tell me something only we know" She whispered and closed her eyes. He was not able to understand what was happening but he did not need her to ask again.

He took a deep breath and smirked softly. "When you talk I feel like my heart fastens and when you kiss me I feel like I am burning alive, why?" Elena held her breath and looked at him wide open eyes. She was able to feel the tears in her eyes.

She leaned in slowly and kissed him, it was a short lived but it still felt like the first time they lived this moment. "How did you feel? When we were kissing?" It was crazy that they remembered it word by word. Kai laughed a little and closed his eyes. "I can't explain" He whispered, they connected their foreheads, Elena closed her eyes and let her tears fall through her cheeks. "But I can make you feel"

"Kai?" Kai opened his eyes and looked at Elena who was crying silently. "Why are you crying? Please tell me what is going on" Elena suddenly wrapped her arms around him and buried her head in his neck. "I thought I lost you forever, I was so scared"

He could not return the hug because his hands were tied but he placed butterfly kisses on her neck. "You will never lose me, It's okay, we are safe. Now tell me what's wrong" Elena raised her head and looked back to Freya. "Is it normal that he does not remember?"

The blonde witch nodded slowly, making Elena nod as well. She turned back to Kai and held his cheeks slowly. "You were possessed by one of the Klaus' enemies, a guy called Lucien"

Kai tried to stand up but he was not able to, he growled with anger. Elena sighed and turned to Elijah. "Can you give me the keys?" Elijah nodded and gave the keys to Elena who unlocked the chains and released Kai. His first move was embracing Elena, the embrace Elena returned gladly and never wanted to let go. "Are you okay, are the babies okay?"

"Yeah, we are okay" Kai nodded and let Elena go, but suddenly looking confused. "Wait, why would one of Klaus' enemies want to hurt you?" Elena opened her mouth but did not want to say anything, she looked down and Kai sighed when he realized he was not going to get his answers from Elena. "Care to explain, any of you?"

"My brother, Niklaus, happened to have Elena as his weakness; one could say" Kai faked a smile and nodded his head. "And, any of you fancy translating him to twenty first century English?"

"He means, Niklaus is in love with Elena" Kai let out a chuckle and raised his eyebrows as he walked back to Elena's side. "Aren't we all?"

"What?" Hayley blurted with confusion and Elena looked at Kai with the same amount of confusion as well. "Aren't you mad?" Kai debated his answer for a second. "I am more than mad baby, but I don't lash out as long as what makes me mad isn't threatening your well being"

She did not say anything, just stayed in his arms and took a deep breath of his scent. She missed him, crazily, she felt like she was going broke down. "Can we go home now?"

Kai thought about shaking his head as he thought about all the murders he was plotting of. However, he looked at the woman looking at him with the hope of a new and beautiful life.

Would it make him a coward if did not take his revenge from all those people for what they did to their family? He did not want revenge anymore, he did not need revenge. He just wanted to leave, to far away with everyone he loved.

"Yes, of course" His voice was soft, the look in his eyes was soft and Elena knew it was genuine. "We can" Elena smiled to him and they just walked out of the room.

As they stood on the garden, they both realized sometimes disappearing from someone's life without any warning was the biggest revenge one could ever take. And they were tired, it was fight they fought, from the beginning. From the very moment they had met in the prison world.

The fate knitted its knots slowly yet wisely as his glance first fell to her. The first smile, first touch, first kiss, first time. He wanted all to last forever, but it could not, not with him. "You can"

"What?" Kai placed a kiss on her forehead and hugged the mother of his children. The woman who made him feel everything even when he was  in the middle of nothing, the only woman he had fallen love with. "I love you Elena, deeper than the oceans and the skies. I love you and those little creatures you carry in you, I am in love with each of you"

He sniffed, trying to keep his tears to himself as Elena broke down crying in his arms. "What does it mean?"

"I can see you in ten years, raising our daughters in the best way, telling them stories about their father"

"Kai, no-" He cut her with a kiss upon her lips and it was just when she understood it was their last kiss. The kiss was filled with passion and fear, holding something so open to break. Yet they did not break it, they carried it through the kiss. "I can't lose you again"

"I am no good for you baby, you know it" Elena shook her head as her tears continued falling through her cheeks. "We are a family"

"And family always lives in your heart and mind, I will always live in you, and in our children. In your souls" Elena let out a choked sob. "Why are you talking like I will never see you again?"

"Because you won't my dear" Elena tilted her head and looked at the warlock with the dying hope of hers. "Tell them about me, and maybe it is selfish but never love anyone in the way you loved me"

"I can't even if I wanted to" Elena closed her eyes again. "I love you"

"And I love you" And he was gone.
