Winds that Cry

  'If I could have a single wish, it would to repay you...' Thoma thought, 'Young Lady, if you hadn't taken me in, Lord Ayato would've sent me back to Inazuma...'

  Many, many months ago, when Thoma had been shipwrecked away and landed on the shores of Inazuma, he had nothing. Very little Mora and as far as he was concerned, his father was somewhere on that land.

   Thoma spent days living on nothing but the occasional onigiri that a pitying passerby gave him every few days or so.

   But still, Thoma kept an optimistic look on his face and enjoyed what he believed to be his new life on Inazuma. He had lived like that for two months, searching for his dad with every ounce of time Thoma had.

   One day, the hard and cold rain had forced Thoma to take shelter underneath a tree that did a poor job of keeping him dry. Ayaka wouldn't have remembered it but she and her brother had walked passed him somewhere along the way and both didn't even notice him until Ayaka turned her head slightly and then saw her future attendant sitting below that tree.

    It had been the first time in weeks that someone had even noticed him, Ayaka pointed over to Thoma and whispered something in Ayato's ear, she handed Ayato her umbrella and walked back home in the pouring rain, not caring about how drenched she would get.

    Then, Ayato walked over with Ayaka's umbrella in hand and held it above Thoma.

    "Are you lost?" Ayato questioned.

    "In a way." Thoma nodded

    "Do you have a job of some sorts?" Ayato asked.

    "No." Thoma replied.

    "Boy, you do not look like someone from Inazuma. Where are you from?" Ayato's voice was cold.

    "I came from Mondstadt," said Thoma, "I... ran away from home."

    "Normally, as people of Inazuma, we would send away outsiders," Ayato explained and Thoma's face fell, anything but going back to Mondstadt, anything but going back to that... that place.

    Ayato studied Thoma's face carefully and then sighed.

   "What's your name?" asked the son of the Kamisato clan.

    "Thoma."

    Once again, Ayato let out another sigh.

   "Boy, you are lucky my sister has taken pity on you," said Ayato, "She doesn't like it when people look like stray dogs."

    Thoma twitched slightly, he looked like a lost dog?

    "I promise to make it up to her one day!" Thoma promised.

    "How will you make this up to her?" Ayato asked.

     "I-I..." Thoma's voice faltered, "I can cook, clean, and use a polearm! Those are my strongest points!"

    Ayato looked at him with curiosity.

    "My name is Ayato Kamisato, if you want... why don't you come to work for the Kamisato estate?" Ayato asked.

    Thoma looked at Ayato with a shocked expression.

    "P-pardon?" Thoma questioned, asking him to repeat it.

   "Come work for the Kamisato estate," Ayato repeated, "If you manage to convince my mother and father to hire you, I will let you stay in Inazuma. But if you don't, then I will follow Inazuma code and make you go back to Mondstadt."
