"Walk with me?" Francesca asked with a soft smile, Fringilla smiled holding out her arm for the pregnant elf. The two walked side by side, arm in arm waving to their people with smiles on their faces. "My people feel safe here, and I have to thank you for that."

Fringilla smiled at her, squeezing her arm. "I don't need a thank you, this is what needs to happen."

Francesca blushed as they continued to walk, Fringilla was careful to help her down the stairs. "All of this walking is going to put me into labor." Francesca smiled waiting for the moment her child was to come into the world. Fringilla smiled at the thought, a baby always brought so much hope no matter what they were. At least for Fringilla the idea of a child within the walls of the kingdom was a good sign. She wanted to hear the soft wailing, wanted to see the newborn thrive, there was something about Francesca that had changed her mind about the stories she had heard about elves.

They walked together through the courtyard, their arms no longer linking, but their fingers intertwined. Everyone watched their leaders walk hand in hand together. Everything was falling into place, their people were thriving, their kingdom was thriving. Together they were creating a safer place for the elves.

They continued to walk hand in hand, at first their relationship was one of need. Two women leaders just doing what's best for their people, but as time passed they had found a comfort in one another that wasn't easy to explain. They had come to find a comfort in one another, in knowing the other was there for them throughout the changing of seasons and experiences. Fringilla led Francesca towards a sweeping tree, petals fell from the flowers growing from it's branches.

Francesca smiled as she watched the petals fall slowly, the wind picking up and taking them in a swirling motion around them. "This place is so beautiful." Francesca said as she picked up a fallen flower, she held it in her hand with a smile inspecting each petal as if her life depended on it.

Fringilla smiled, Francesca was always so analytical about everything. She got a look in her eye when she was thinking hard about things. "Francesca," Fringilla began as she carefully took the flower from her and placed it in her hair, Francesca looked up at the women with a smile on her lips.

"Yes Fringilla?"

"I would like to propose something to you, something we haven't yet defined."

Francesca grinned, her blue eyes studying Fringilla. "What is it exactly you're referring to?" The elven women asked hoping she would say what she was waiting for.

"What are we?"

"Happy." Francesca replied taking Fringilla's hand in hers. She carefully placed it on her swollen belly, Fringlla's eyes got big as she felt small kicks on her hand from the life growing inside the elven women she had come to see as more than a friend. "Blissful."

"Bliss." Fringilla repeated under her breath as she held her hand to Francesca without the other women having to hold it down. "That's a good word to describe the way I feel with you Francesca. What do we call what we are?"

"We are the leaders of two great groups of people, together we rule them side by side. I would be happy to say as more than friends? Queens together, lovers even?"

Fringilla sighed in relief, she was thankful to find that the other women felt the exact same as she did. Petals continued to fall over them as Fringilla leaned forward placing a soft kiss to Francesca's lips. The elven women smiled returning the kiss, small kicks from inside her making her feel warm.

This was what joy felt like, Francesca hadn't felt that in a long time. She had been so fearful of losing her people, of becoming a dying race, but here with Fringilla she had found an indescribable joy. She felt safe, she felt real, and she felt ready to bring a life into the world again.
