"You're late?" Kai's father was almost confused. "That's new."
Kai wants to slam his face against the table. Instead, he takes a spoonful of rice. "Woke up late and I missed 2 lectures. I'll have to just attend my remaining afternoon classes.. sorry."
His father sits across him, humming in understanding as he joins breakfast. "It's nothing to apologize about. I'm just surprised you aren't freaking out about it."
"I did at first, but sleeping in was a good alternative."
Kai's father hollers, "Sleep. You should sleep a lot while you're still young."
Nothing out of the ordinary.
"But I'll have to ask my classmates for notes though," Kai pouts. Being late is one thing, but skipping lectures is another. He was never the type to miss classes, but rare incidents are rare because they still happen. All he could think of was waking up and realizing that he slept through his alarm.
"Ask Taehyun."
Kai kept the pout. "He's not in my lectures."
His father ponders, maybe thinking of something to comfort his son even though it's not exactly necessary. "How about the boy you're seeing?"
"Hm?"
"Beomgyu."
Kai stiffens. He will never get used to his father's bluntness with the things he probably just overheard or observed—Kai's fault for not really being transparent, but it's not like telling your dad that you're seeing a boy is easy. (Although, his father had expressed how he doesn't mind if Kai will bring home a boyfriend instead of a girlfriend one day. For that, Kai's grateful.)
"I don't share a class with him either."
"Well, he left those by the front door. I thought they were notes."
Kai looked at where his father was gesturing and found a paper bag. Quickly, he makes his way to check inside; finding papers in paperclips. Pink.
"How did you know they're from him?" Kai doesn't find any note or name.
His father chuckles. "Well, uh, he also left coffee with his name on the cup."
"Where's the drink?"
"I'm sorry," His father taps his stomach and Kai groans in annoyance. He receives another holler that he's very familiar with.

Lunch time schedules are never fixed for the entire university. Beomgyu, especially, takes his lunch time 30 minutes after Kai's on Wednesdays, while Kai takes his lunch time an hour after Beomgyu's on Mondays and Fridays—those days forces them to eat separately. (Bad days for the both of them, but Kai likes to cheer Beomgyu up on Mondays with extra sweet good morning texts—Beomgyu would message him on his lunch time with cute "I miss you" messages.)
